We Did Zip!

Today was Sunday, and Mary was down for the count.  The cold has her in his grips; she stayed in bed all day, and I got to be the nurse!   I slept in Robin’s Nest as we attempted to keep me from catching whatever she had.  It is NOT COVID; that was the first thing we tried.

I waited on her all day which I was honored to do after all she had been through with me.

I worked in the office straightening up things and plan tomorrow to get the tax goodies ready and finish off some long-awaited filing.

Scout and I walked the garden to inspect the progress, and he was quite happy with everything.  We watered the berries with acid-based fertilizer; berries love acidic soil.  I checked Mary’s babies, and we are actually getting some growth on several of the transplants.

I looked online to see if I could get a nurses hat or a candy-stripper outfit to ware, but alas, they had nothing in my size, which probably was a good thing1

Off to the pharmacy, I went.  Me and The Silver Fox.  I passed by the local “lake” and it was full to the brim.  It began to rain again as I was out and about.

Mary has lived in this area for thirty years and has never seen it so full! The blue dot is us.

For dinner, I outdid myself by whipping up another gourmet meal of macaroni and cheese from scratch.  I scratched myself, attempting to open the box; does that count?  To make it more delicious, I carefully sliced up a weenie making the julienne cut at exactly 37.35 degrees!  Not to be outdone, I popped two potatoes into the cooking pad, brought them to a nice hot temperature, slit them open, and lovingly added sour cream, butter, and a garnish of grated rat cheese!  A meal fit for a queen!

Tea was the order of the day; no wine since last week and we are not missing it.

I must admit I had help from Trade Joe’s chef and the microwave!

Did You Know? During the end of the Great Depression, macaroni and cheese became a popular food item due to its low cost. It was billed as “the housewife’s best friend, a nourishing one pot meal” and sold 8 million boxes when it was released by Kraft Foods in 1937. The popularity of the food then exploded once again in World War II.

She stayed up until at least 9:30 pm as I went to bed.  Robin’s Nest has a door just a few feet from the Master bedroom, so I could hear her quite easily.  I fell asleep quickly, resting my bonbon arm on the pillow.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
