It’s The Ides of March Minus Nine

It’s raining so hard the animals are starting to pair up.

The rain is kinda like seeing your mother-in-law go over a cliff in your new Cadillac! We need it but perhaps a few more days apart? Anyway, we had a lightning storm last night and it was quite spectacular!

The rain makes the roses quite interesting

First things first…onto the scale and volia, 210.5 this fine morning. I am getting out the ol’ calorie counter and do battle with the numbers. 200 pounds, here I come…again!

The rain has returned with a vengeance… as I sat at my desk, I could see the rain hitting the pool and the pool level continued to rise. In any event, I had to do battle with the rain as I had US Mail that had to get into the system this morning. While I was out, I did a Ralph’s “fly-by” to get Snapple and some apples…cold day, baked apples are a great idea.

When I returned home, Sue was busy cooking. I asked her what it was and I got the typical answer “Leftovers!”. She decided to cook up everything that would be going bad so I saw onions, bell peppers, mushroom, and veggies spicy sausages. The result was fantastic! We always have asparagus around the house so they got roasted.

To this very day, I have no idea how Sue can dive into a refrigerator and pull out a collection of items and make them into such a delicious meal. It was spectacular. We had leftovers and I am looking forward to having them tomorrow for lunch!

She is absolutely amazing! Zero to dinner in 20 minutes, guaranteed!

We do experiment once in a while…the last experiment was saganaki, a Greek treat. It does involve alcohol and flaming and cheese.

Looks serious but a) it was an alcohol fire (i.e. low heat) and b) the flame was instantaneous (the camera just happened to catch the exact instant of the flame)

To the mailbox I bounded to see what a long lost relative may have left us…alas, all we got was an opportunity to spend $$$$ on theater tickets at the Segestrom Center of the Arts. We renewed our Broadway/Segerstrom series. We have done this for twenty-one years. We give to the theater on a pretty regular basis.

We got cleaned up and waited around for the cleaning folks to arrive. I worked on “the books” in the office and Sue read. We also began another puzzle. It’s called “Country Mill” and is shaping up to be another challenge.

So far we have the barn mostly put together!

Country Mill is a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle designed by artist Alan Giana. A country mill is set amidst summer flowers and blossoming trees. Deer, butterflies, frogs and birds emerge from forest to surround the rushing river. After buying it, we could have bought a 1,500 piece version of the same thing…it’s noce to be older and wiser…we stayed with 500!

Before the cleaning folks arrived, I got an email from a friend and after looking at it, I became enraged. It is about damned time the dimocrats start supporting this country instead of acting like spoiled children. Their antics are, at a minimum, despicable and more like treasonable! Thousands of illegals cross the border every day and the dimocrats say we do NOT have a problem…I am ashamed of them.

We left the house around 3:00 PM and drove down to Newport Beach ending up at the Newport Harbor Elks Lodge where we enjoyed a brief visit and a drink. We renewed our associate membership at the lodge before returning back to Sunset Beach along the coast.

Just prior to leaving, we ordered flowers for Aunt Kaye who is adapting well in her new home in Stockton…we are so happy to have her be in a safe place!

We met up with Crazy Greg and Mitch at the Himalayan Grille, our favorite Nepalese/Indian restaurant. I did half of my Lamb Vendatoo and Sue ordered our normal selection but she had about half of the veggie Thukpa.

Did You Know?  Thokpa is boiled noodles, filtered and mixed with vegetables and meat items. Thokpa is also called Thukpa, It is very popular in Kathmandu and Mountain region of Nepal. It is eaten mostly during winter. Thokpa is noodles dipped in very hot soup, so it is good in cold places. It keeps you warm.

It has its own chili dipped vinegar source. People prefer hot and spicy tomato Achar with this item too. Thokpa is eaten generally for Khaja at noon or meals in night.

Mitch is doing just fine…it’s always a pleasure to visit with him! Mitch is our son-in-law who was married to one of our daughters who we do not see anymore.

We spent two hours at dinner just telling stories and checking up on everyone. After dinner and going to the car, the sky openened up and buckets fell on the car. Returning home, we watched some TV and finally crashed about 10:45 after our tookies.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend.
