It’s St. Patrick’s day and that makes it easy to determine what kind of possum you are dealiong with!
Did You Know” When threatened or harmed, they will “play possum”, mimicking the appearance and smell of a sick or dead animal. This physiological response is involuntary (like fainting), rather than a conscious act. In the case of baby opossums, however, the brain does not always react this way at the appropriate moment, and therefore they often fail to “play dead” when threatened. When an opossum is “playing possum”, the animal’s lips are drawn back, the teeth are bared, saliva foams around the mouth, the eyes close or half-close, and a foul-smelling fluid is secreted from the anal glands. The stiff, curled form can be prodded, turned over, and even carried away without reaction. The animal will typically regain consciousness after a period of a few minutes to four hours, a process that begins with slight twitching of the ears.
It’s Saturday and St. Patrick’s Day! We were lazy today and didn’t even fix corned beef and cabbage… First time in twenty plus years! However, we have the fixin’s so in the next couple of days the house will smell like corned beef! Yeah!
We talked to Jonathan (our 29 year old grandson) and he is out of the hospital and resting at home after a bout with the appendix and some minor complications. He had three feet of snow so again, even-though California is full of hair-brained leftist whacko’s we are glad we are here.
In the afternoon Paul got his new desk organized (the one made from two filing cabinets and a LARGE piece of 1/2″ glass). Looks pretty good and sure works well.
We had Greek left-overs for a late brunch as we are going to Starlighters this evening in our formal attire. We departed for the Yorba Linda Country Club at 5:40 for a 6:30 dance and arrived with 5 minutes to spare! Wow! Zero traffic! Perhaps everyone was in the local bar?
We had a great time this evening and enjoy being with our friends. Holly and Bill are an amazing couple who join us in Catalina for the Avalon Ball and are also enjoying retirement! Holly always says “Swinging And Swearing” when the four of us attempt to play golf… Our scores are not great but we laugh so hard we are in tears!
We had MPG this evening and they are always fantastic. The house was not quite full as several members probably went “bar hopping” after all it is St. Patrick’s Day!
We headed home about 10:30 PM a little ahead of the crowds as we wanted to take our time and avoid the wild drivers. It is great when one drinks non-alcoholic wine because calories and “buzzy-ness” go away!
Yes… We did watch Grey’s Anatomy before hitting the sack. We are getting caught up with the current releases so we are sneaking up on the time when we have to stop and make recordings!
