Instead of the morning walk, Paul decided it was gardening time. He tilled about 200 square feel of vegetable beds, cleaned out the last of the peppers and laid down a bale of straw.
Straw is an agricultural by-product, the dry stalks of cereal plants, after the grain and chaff have been removed. Straw makes up about half of the yield of cereal crops such as barley, oats, rice, rye and wheat. It has many uses, including fuel, livestock bedding and fodder, thatching and basket-making. It is usually gathered and stored in a straw bale, which is a bundle of straw tightly bound with twine or wire.
We like to “age” the straw by leaving it outside and watering the bales so as to force any remaining seeds to germinate.
We had lunch around noon and cleaned up to go play golf! We did nine holes in about two hours.
We never had to wait a significant time for anyone in front of us.
We did an abbreviated Happy Hour and then headed home to change so we could go dancing at the Phoenix Club. We stayed until the bitter end!
Upon coming home, we again offered our services to Captain Janeway and we find out that the the Voyager crew were brainwashed into taking new jobs on an industrialized planet that has a severe labor shortage, leaving only Chakotay, Kim and Neelix (who were on an away mission) and the Doctor (who, in the absence of the crew, has become the Emergency Command Hologram) to save them.
We have to wait until tomorrow to find out what happened as the episode was in two parts and we needed our sleep!
