Dancing At A New Club Far Far Away

Amen!

We started working in the garden early in the morning, hoping to finish our tasks before Robin and Bob arrived at 10:00 am on their way to Disneyland.  Mary’s flowers have been looking good for several days; I got them for her at Ralph’s Market, which has an excellent flower shop.

Her flowers are doing well.

I took on the task of trimming the relatively abundant Basic plants.  If the basil has just started to develop baby flower buds, prune them off and continue to enjoy your basil!  However, if the flowers are large and well-established, the basil leaves will lose flavor and can be bitter.

The blossoms can be used in salads, and you can also add freshly cut basil flowers to a teacup or pot of boiling water and let steep for several minutes.  Strain the tea through a tea strainer or standard kitchen strainer, and enjoy!

Basil – Before

Today, I just snipped the flowers away and let them drop to the ground.

Sane Basic – Afterwards

At 10:00 am, Robin and Bob stopped by on their way to Disneyland.  We talked for half an hour before they headed out.  During this time, we discussed our plans for the week ahead.  They joined us yesterday for Italian Night at the Elks Lodge.

Robin and Bob drop by.

Back to the gardening chores.  Mary showed me a leaf that was being eaten, and upon closer inspection, we found the culprit – Mr. Worm had a voracious appetite.  I promptly disposed of him in the garbage disposal along with his meal, giving them an “E-Ticket Ride.”

Hungary, little critter!

It was getting pretty warm outside, so we decided to head indoors and watch some episodes of Batman on TV.  We were particularly interested in learning more about The Penguin and Poison Ivy, as we planned on dressing up as them for Halloween.

Did You Know?  Poison Ivy is a central character in the DC Universe, serving as a primary antagonist and anti-hero in the Batman franchise.  She is a brilliant botanist who was transformed into a human/plant hybrid with the ability to manipulate plants and control people through pheromones.

Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze, Batman’s enemy who wanted to turn Gotham into an icy wasteland.  However, Batman stopped him.

Arnold was on the Batman TV Show!

While watching TV, I always think about my beautiful wife and what I could do to make her happy.  Perhaps a tattoo would lift her spirits, so I went to the local tattoo parlor under the guise of going to the market.

I didn’t know that the tattoo artist was hard of hearing!

We dressed in semi-formal attire and left for the La Canada/Flintridge Country Club at 4:00 p.m. Surprisingly, it took one hour and forty-five minutes to cover the distance despite the place being only 60 miles away.

We knew several members as they were also Rondeliers.

At La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, you escape to a mountain resort just minutes from DTLA.  It has magnificent views in every direction.  LCFCC is a private club, and its facilities are lovely.

We danced well into the evening.

We danced and danced.

We each had two glasses of wine since we had to drive another 60 miles to get home.  After a fantastic meal and quick dancing to some swing songs, driving wasn’t an issue.

The wine was fine.

We won the table decorations and added them to our Halloween decorations collection.

We won the table decoration.

We had a lot of fun, and I met one of the members at our table who I had known for years; she was a Rondalier, so we chatted all evening.  Mary met a general surgeon, and they talked about their profession.

Just us.

We left early as Mary has an appointment to speak at El Modena High School tomorrow.  She needs to be rested.

Spooky was flying around outside.

The club was fully decorated for the holidays and looked quite spooky.  I was grateful to have Mary with me to protect me from any evil spirits lurking about.

This must have driven the gardener nuts!

The drive home was uneventful, and we made the 60-mile journey in about 65 minutes, taking the 210 to the 57 and then to the 55 via the 91.   That’s a lot of numbers.  Mary had a nice nap all the way home!  That was good as tomorrow she faces seven classes of teenagers!

We crashed almost immediately after taking Scout for his pre-bedtime ritual.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
