Hither and Thither!

Thought for the day: Never slap a man who’s chewing tobacco.

Coffee in the backyard!  The firepit supplies the heat, and Mary provides the entertainment; she must really be feeling retired today.  Mary has been retired for 500 days, which is  1 year, 4 months, and 16 days.  Thank you, Javascript!

Coffee by the fire pit; Spring has arrived!

The view from the firepit is perfect.  No houses around us, and all is quiet!  Too bad the pool is at 60 degrees!  We always have the built-in spa or the swim spa should we need hot water!

I got banned from the local swimming pool once.  They banned me for “peeing in the pool.”  I tried defending myself by saying *everybody* pees in the pool, but according to them, no one does it from the diving board.

Five minutes and the heat is amazing!

Scout always comes out to walk the garden with us; he is in charge of chasing away the elephants and is excellent at this task.  We have lived in the house for almost two years now; we have not seen evidence of a single elephant in the yard!

Scout-a-puss enjoys the heat also!  He likes his coffee with a straw!

Yes, it is me, old double-ugly!  I act as a backup in case an elephant gets through Scout’s protective activities.  One look at me and the elephant would jump over the fence and run screaming down the middle of the street!

This is what ugly looks like!

Our drip system dripped today, which was good as the weather was warm.  We have every plant in the entire yard on drip systems; there are eighteen zones and three internet-connected controllers in the backyard.

Water is only a fingertip away!

Our citrus trees are going crazy; the blossoms are very thick this year!  We will have lemons and limes all summer long.

An amazing day!

When we returned to the inside of the house, I turned off the firepit, and it was a little over 650 degrees, according to my IR heat measurement gun.  We can’t wait until it gets warmer, and we have the kids over for a marshmallow roast!  Remy and Lilly are the reigning champions, with Robin and Nick a close second.

I just got over my addiction to chocolate, marshmallows, and nuts.  It was not easy, it was a Rocky Road.

Ever have a dream that you are eating a gigantic marshmallow… And wake up with your pillow missing?

The lava radiates heat for 30 minutes after the flames go out!

It’s Thursday, boys, and girls, meaning we are due at the Elks at noon sharp!  The gang was there, although we missed Bill Capps and Iris!  Bob C. has the same hearing aids as Mary and I, so Mary was getting some lessons from a pro.  She learned some new tricks today!

Mary gets hearing aid lessons from Bob Carlson.

We picked up Scout from his hairdresser, and he looked so good; he wanted to be pretty for the Easter events, which start on Saturday!

We dropped him off at the house and then proceeded to go to Home Depot to get some hardware for the berry vines.  We wanted to put up wire for the berries to hang on but to make them taunt, a turnbuckle was needed.  We got two large ones for the major supports and four smaller ones for the lower wires.

Tools at the ready; the berry trellis goes up this evening.

Once the turnbuckles were drawn up tight, we could play the one-string guitar quite easily.  While I was singing, I wondered why all the birds were exiting the local area.  Can my singing be that bad?

Did You Know? Hailed as a superfood, blackberries are an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin K. The mineral wealth of blackberries includes calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, and zinc. They are also a good source of amino acids and essential dietary fiber, and they do not contain any harmful cholesterol.

Twenty-five feet of delicious berries are coming to our garden soon!

We have twenty blackberries, boysenberries, olallieberries, and raspberries planted in the bed so far.  They are starting to come alive after all the cold we have had,

The wires are tuned to C-Sharp!

Did You Know? A turnbuckles a mechanical device that connects the threaded ends of two rods and permits them to be adjusted for length or tension. The turnbuckle has two collinear holes, one of which has right-hand threads and the other left-hand threads that mate with the right- and left-hand threads on the ends of the rods. Rotation in one direction draws the rod ends together, while rotation in the opposite direction separates them.

On our way home from Home Depot, we stopped at Del Taco and got their super burrito and two tacos.  We did NOT want to cook this evening.

We watched a couple of movies and crashed before 10:00 pm since we stayed up so late last night.  Friday, we wanted to be awake as we are going to our tax man before we got to Garden Grove to an evening of live music with the gang.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend.
