Friday Has Arrived; Weekend Is At Hand!

What hair color do they put on the driver’s licenses of bald men?

Gray…more gray…do you even get tired of gray? One more day of gray and I shall paint the town red! It is supposed to be six degrees warmer tomorrow and perhaps the gray will go away and the Sun return, let’s hope so!

Did You Know? The expression is American slang meaning to go on a reckless debauch, to be wildly extravagant. Originally, the metaphor applied to bonfires painting the sky or scenery red. An old Irish ballad contains the lines: The beacon hills were painted red/ With many a fire that night.

After the ol’ eyes finally got into focus, it takes longer and longer these days, I checked into Facebook (where we get pictures of the family) and we were met with a great pictures from nine years ago on Mother’s Day at Disneyland!

California Adventure in 2010…We attempt to go to Disneyland on Mother’s Day
Remember…”The Happiest Place On Earth” (How do you like my Minnie costume)

Sue had her champagne and I worked on the incredible puzzle for another hour. How can 500 pieces of printed cardboard be so derned difficult? Every morning I get about ten new pieces put into place and then zip, nada, zero for the next fifteen minutes! It’s hard but someone has to do it…I refuse to put it back into the box. I will be delighted to finish my jigsaw in only three weeks when the label on it says 6-8 years.

Some spare time became available so I check into Classmates.com and ran into an OLD friend, Gil Segal. We went to school together from kindergarten through high school. He became a lawyer and is now retired in Santa Monica. We plan to get together in the next couple of weeks,

Letters are moving toward Stockton. I got three confirmations from our family and kids that they have written to Aunt Kaye. Paula, Olivia, and Michele have already written. Nancy has written but wants a picture to send to her from our website. Robin has something going and Colleen has already written and sent a small present. We are proud of our family and friends for “pitching in” and making like just a little nicer for a great lady! Thank you guys!!!

Aunt Kaye visiting us at Christmas time!
Yes, that’s Paul in Paris circa 1960 looking for the dirty postcard seller!

Memories:  Dad always wanted to travel but Mom, not so much.  Dad and I decided to go to Europe and visit my uncle who was in the military stationed in Italy at the time.   We spent three weeks riding through Europe in a VW Van seeing the sights.  In Paris, I actually did find the “girlie” pictures but they were Kodachrome Slides!  I still have the slides somewhere…I think they were from the Moulin Rouge!  I so enjoyed time with my Dad, we left us in 1970…way too early.

Sue and often wish her father and mine would have met early on…they would have been a force to reckon with, that’s for sure.

I did some cleaning yesterday and the .45 was on the list! The shotguns also got their bi-yearly tune up! We put them away safely but ready for action should the situation arise. We thought this sign was appropriate!

I did some gardening making sure the corn was getting plenty of water and that the peas were getting picked. The remaining fruit I dropped from the trees were placed into the trash cans and readied for pickup. My ice trays are now full of lemon juice…lemonade is easy now…glass of water and three cubes, we are ready to go!

It’s a Toppers night so I got the camera ready as well as the web pages that will receive the photos over the weekend. Topper’s was at the Long Beach Grand and we have reserved three more evening there for the remainder of the year!

We are on the Board of Directors so we got there about 5:15 PM to attend the pre-dance board meeting. We have been doing the newsletter and mailings for twelve years now.

It was a formal dance as we celebrate and honor Memorial Day

Our table was a blast last night, we had the Gills, Zaitz, Kuhn’s, Roberts and ourselves. We laughed, giggled, danced all evening long. Great to have such good friends and the nice thing is we would fit in and any of the six tables!

The music started and we all jumped to attention and headed to the dance floor. Russell is an OBGYN and is in his mid 70s’s, Lily (in purple), his bride, is a vegetarian like Sue. Donna we all know and “The Bern”, Bernie, is going to be 97 this year…and he can dance all night long!

We danced until 10:00 PM and then headed for home. I had one too many non-alcoholic beers and get a little wild…so I was told by the nice ossifers.

I tried to be good but…..

We got a text message from Joe & Amy, our son and daughter-in-law, and they are joining us for Mother’s Day so we will have all the local kids with us…we will have to Skype with Colleen!

We did our tookies, watched Grey’s Anatomy and Gilmore Girls before hitting the sack!

Really something to think about!!!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
