We Have More To Do!

Our education system has lost its way!

Our education system has lost its way!

When I read the papers and listen to the news, I often wonder where America’s great leaders have gone.  The people in charge today and their supporters are hopeless and are sending this country down the tubes.  Being almost 80 years old is wonderful because I won’t be here to see the greatest country in the world turn into a helpless behemoth which is where we are going!

The trumpets blew as we stepped into the yard for the morning saunter into our vegetable garden.  Since we were going to Girl’s Night Out and Home Depot was next door, we took mental notes of what was needed.

I played the trumpet for a few weeks many years ago, and I still have it because it was amazing.  It tells me what time it is. I was telling Mary this late last night, and she did not believe me.

So I went to the closet and retrieved it, stepped to the patio, and launched into a jazzy riff that I remembered.  Immediately, the occupant next door opened his bedroom window and hollered, “Hey, pipe down! Don’t you know it’s three o’clock in the morning?”

The trumpets are about to blow!

They put in a magnificent display, and they sound pretty good also!

When we arrived at Casa Valencia, the backyard was bare.

Two Years Ago!

It was a canvas on which Mary and I would paint.

We indeed painted and repainted and repainted again!

Two years later!

We had to take Mr. Scout to his beauty parlor this morning but had to stop at his doctor’s office first to get his special shampoo.  We called Jan, hoping she would join us at the Elks, but alas, it was another no-go.  We have decided to have her call us when she is ready.

We dropped him off, and he waltzed right in like he owned “The Clip Joint”; everyone was happy to see him.  He is a favorite there.

We went back home for a few minutes as we had time since we did not have to stop at Villa Park.   My phone shows me random pictures from yesteryear, and I have 400,000 photos dating back to the 1990s for the phone to select from.

Today’s random picture was of Mary and me in Catalina in 2014.  We were designated by the group to go to Von’s and get wine and snacks for the entire group of twelve.  Bob Zaitz came with us, and Mary made the snack selections, healthy, of course.  Checkout the contents of the cart!

Mary and I went to Von’s Market on Catalina in 2014, almost ten years ago!

We did Girl’s Night Out and had a lot of fun.  We arrived early since  Jan decided not to join us, and we sat with Bill Capps for thirty minutes before the rest of the gang arrived.   I laughed silly.

I was enjoying my beer!!

While we were talking, I decided to change my name to ‘Benefits’ on Facebook. Next time someone adds me, it will say, “You are now friends with Benefits.”

We stopped at Home Depot, and I went in, unsupervised as Mary took a cat nap in the car. I got some new tomatoes to replace several that were not planted in good soil!

Returning home, Mary and I attacked the garden, with me planting six new tomato plants and Mary pulling weeds from the watermelon patch.

Robin came about:00 pm, and Mary and her fixed dinner from the garden.  I went to the local CVS to pick up a prescription we were having a problem getting as a result of changing insurance and heart doctors.

Getting ready for dinner.

Yesterday Mary asked me to put tomato ketchup on the shopping list that I was writing out.  I got to the store and could not read a word on the list.

Are the ingredients fresh?  Duh! It can’t get fresher than this!  The onions came out but not without a battle!

Harvesting they went!

Slicing and dicing, we are having stirfry this evening.

Out of the garden!

Lettuce, kale, broccoli, and beet leaves make for a delectable stirfry.  Robin took notes and is welcome to come by anytime and do her own harvesting.

More goodies from the garden!

For dessert, we have strawberries.  By the time we finished the stirfry and the French dinner rolls we baked, we were too full to have dessert. Can you imagine that?

Mary and Robin picked dessert.

We watched a movie and talked about the garden.  The security camera keeps an eye on the garden for us, and we get an alert if there is ANY movement.  Last night we were alerted to a squirrel who was bee-bopping down the fence, but he did not stop to visit.

The security camera keeps track of activities in the garden!

Ten PM and we crashed; it is going to be a busy weekend with Mother’s Day capping it off on Sunday!
