Mid-Week, TIme For A Crisis! Oops, That’s Mid-Life! Cancel The Thought!

Getting the house clean for the cleaning ladies took about an hour.  Domilita and Maria sometimes comment on how neat we are; little does she know how hard we work before she arrives.

Mary was up and dressed in her grubbies so she could stay in the office while the master bedroom was completed.  The girls have been with me for ten years, perhaps more.  Domi sometimes brings me food she has made, but she is careful to label it “HOT HOT HOT” so as not to poison Dr. Mary.

While the girls were in the back of the house, I got super busy and made a mincemeat pie for Jan.  After I got the top on the pie,  I did my carving. An egg white bath was needed to ensure the crust would turn golden brown.

Domi came in while I was about to crack the egg into a small cup, and apparently, I looked puzzled (and I was).  I forgot if the yoke was used for or not, and Domi giggled and said, “Paul, I think you are supposed to use the white only!”  She saved me!

Before; ready for the oven!

She was quite correct, as thirty minutes later, the eggwhites did their work, and we had a beauty to deliver to Jan.  It has been years since I made a pie, and I was so happy it turned out!

Baked to a golden brown!

Mary wandered into the kitchen to see what all the commotion was bout.  Maria and Domi were admiring the results.  Mary snapped a photo for proof.  Next week I will make a pair of pies; one for Domi and one for Vicky. I needed my chef’s hat!

I dood it myself!

The time was up, and the Silver Fox and I had to leave for Jan’s house to meet the piano movers!  Jan gave us a new piano from her dance studio, and since it was coming down her 13 stairs and up our 15 stairs, we hired professionals!  Why count the stairs, you ask?  They bill $10/stair for moving plus the basic move and mileage cost.

Jan, according to GPS, is only 1.6 miles away, so I was there in a flash!

When Jan saw the pie masterpiece, she could not believe it.  It tickled me as she was a master chef, TV and radio personality, and author of many cookbooks!  I got a thumbs-up based on how the pie looked!

Someone liked the artwork!

The piano came down fast, so Jan was asked to call and tell us how it tasted.  The Silver Fox and I had to run home to open the doors for the guys to complete the move.

I got a note from dear friend Vicky after I told her about the pie:

They showed up when I arrived; I opened the front door and showed them the stairway.  “No problem,” they said.  I guessed fifty years ago; I would have said the same thing.  I looked at the job and hid in the kitchen, awaiting an expected crash!

Up it goes into the music room.

The new addition is perfect since Mary and I have some experience with the piano, and being in the ballroom, I know others will step up and serenade our guests.  Now we have to get it tuned after the move.

Almost ready to play!

The guys did a great job; they were very professional!!  Mary took the picture!  How did I know? Look in the mirror.

Thank you, thank you!

I remember the Laurel & Hardy piano moving movie.

Mary got out for the first time since last Friday because she needed to do some banking.  Her bank is in the shopping center two blocks from Jan’s house, so we were there and back in 10 minutes.  She decided to hit the bed again, anxious to recover soon.

Scout wandered in and asked us when he would get piano lessons; we saw stars in his eyes!

Oh dear, what have we created?

The Silver Fox and I did chores starting with getting gas (No, not at Del Taco).   While at the gas station,  I saw a woman at the fuel pump spill gasoline on her arm and then light a cigarette.  The police arrested her for waving a firearm.

From there, David and Diannes’s was my next stop, where Mary’s special Jaffra products were delivered to David.  They were not home, so I felt like an Amazon delivery person.

Next, I went to CVS to pick up my bi-monthly cholesterol shots, additional cold meds for Mary, and a six-pack of H2O.  Putting the Silver Fox in automatic, I took a short nap while he drove home.

I am getting 45 miles/gallon in the hybrid! Love that cr!

Apple announced its new electric vehicle, the iCar, in 2024. Rumor is they’re working on a self-driving boat as well.  They’re going to call it the iAye

I made another gourmet meal of stuffed peppers, raspberries, and blueberries topped with whipped cream, a mocktail of orange juice, and Sprite, and topped it off with Earl Grey decaf tea.

We got a call from Jan, and she expressed her love for the pie.  It was her lunch and dinner today!  Her approval made us happy!

Mary dined in the bedroom, and I ate whatever was left in the kitchen; we kept our distance.  However, I returned to the bedroom to pick up the dishes, deliver dessert, and then proceeded to clean up the kitchen.  I laid on the bed far from Mary, and we watched several episodes of New Amsterdam before crashing.

Scout-A-Puss and I went out at 11:00 pm to water the grass before bedding down for the night.

The moon was bright, and the skies fairly clear!

At 11:15 pm, Scout and I hit the sack.  He sleeps at the foot of the bed in his soft bed.  I went to Robin’s Nest and crashed immediately.  Good news, at midnight, the BP was back to its normal; 120/80!  The elimination of alcohol is apparently working.  Not a drop since March 2nd, almost a week now, and we do not miss it a bit!

Mary’snoring is so bad that I bought one of those anti-snoring devices today; I believe it’s called a Taser. [Not really, but it sounded funny!]

I woke up at about 2:00 am with a puzzled look on my face. Had fallen asleep on my crossword.  I woke up because Scout was playing the scales on the new piano!

What have we created? Another Liber-scratchie! Look out, Vegas, here he comes!

He was told to go to bed, and he could practice tomorrow!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
