…And Back Down To Zero!

Fact:  While Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the actual date of the big event is lost to history. There’s no mention of December 25 in the Bible, and many historians say Jesus was most likely born in the spring.  Some historians posit the date was initially chosen because it coincided with the pagan festival of Saturnalia, which honored the agricultural god Saturn with celebrating and gift-giving.

Today was supposed to be a recreation of Thanksgiving, but neither of us was doing well. Mary’s arm was in pain, and her arm was also in the process of turning the most beautiful purple!  I still suffered from that incessant cough and stayed up all night trying to make it go away.

I told Mary at breakfast,” Let’s be naughty and save Santa the trip.”

Finally, at 2:00 AM, Mary made me go into the TV room, sit in the recliner, and drink extra hot tea.  That seemed to work as I got a little sleep. It’s lovely to have a doctor in the house!

Mary watched movies most of the day, and I puttered around fixing meals and putting the final touches on Christmas.

It’s a sad fact: The Supreme Court has ruled that they cannot have a nativity scene in Washington, D.C. This wasn’t for religious reasons.  They couldn’t find three wise men and a virgin.

Joe and our grandsons popped over to finish off the lights, and I was embarrassed because I thought I had them all.  Alas, I was confused; the last light set is coming on Tuesday!

I love the new permanent lights!

We are ready for the holidays!

Dan and Becky stopped by to visit Mary and me.  We talked for almost an hour and were so excited to see them that I forgot to take pictures.  We will see them again on Christmas Eve at The Farmhouse and perhaps later at our home; YEAH!!

Joe and the boys can in and met Dan and Becky, and we visited for a few minutes before Joe had to set sail for La Mirada.

Robin and Bob popped in and brought us sustenance; two pizzas!  We really took a toll on the pizzas, leaving not much for them to take home.

I tasted funny!

We visited for an hour, but Mary was getting tired, so they took off back to Corona.

We did ask Scout what kind of pizza he liked!  He responded with “Puperoni”.

We crashed soon after that; Mary was in pain and wanted to lie down!  We watched a couple of Christmas movies and finally went to sleep around 10:00 PM.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
