July 1st And Our Mouths Hurt!

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

You guessed it… Time for a dental checkup.  After today’s visit, I plan to mail my teeth in next time!

Before leaving for the dentist, Mary picked a mess of veggies for Dr. Annie.

She came back with a bag of goodies for Dr. Annie!

We arrived at Drs. Nagel’s office on time, and they were ready to perform the examination and cleaning.  I got a little worried when my dental hygienist brought in a package of Bar Keepers Friend, a wire brush, and a two-horsepower rotary grinder.  When my hygienist took the X-rays, I asked her to leave off the lead shield.  She was surprised that I knew there was no radiation with the new machines.  Few people are aware that today’s X-rays emit no radiation, but dentists still wear lead shields to make the unknowing more comfortable.

Modern digital X-ray technology and a deeper understanding of radiation exposure have led to updated recommendations from organizations such as the American Dental Association (ADA).  While some states may still have regulations requiring the use of lead aprons, the current trend is towards eliminating them.

We both passed the cleaning and exams with flying colors.  Zero cavities.  I asked my doctor if I could go to the toy box, and she smiled.  I asked again, “Can I go to the ADULT toys box?”  She giggled, Mary turned red, and I ran out the door to the car.   The devil makes me do it!

Dr. Annie and Dr. Cote have been friends for many years.  Dr. Annie is painless and does a magnificent job keeping our ancient teeth functioning.  She works alongside her father and uncle at Nagel Dentistry in Huntington Beach.

I was happy; no more visits until February 2026!

I did not recognize Dr. Annie without her mask on!

It’s like visiting family!

Did you know that we actually have 4 Nagels at Nagel Dentistry?! Dr. Chris, Dr. Vince, and Denise are siblings, and Dr. Annie is Dr. Vince’s daughter

We went VFR home as we had Chinese leftovers to eat.  Mary went on another quick trip to the backyard, returning with the fixings for a fantastic salad!

We called the Finchs, who are now living in England.  We spoke with Brian and Jan for about half an hour, reviewing with them everyone they knew here in the United States.  We offered them the opportunity to come to the US and spend a month with us, as we have a large house.  We hope they take us up on the offer.  They are lovely people.

We established an excellent relationship with Brian and Jan over the years!

We spent most of the day on Mary’s box-reduction activities, and during the day, Colleen called us and we talked for half an hour.  We sent Colleen a picture of a sweatshirt she might like!

Colleen loved this shirt.

Around 5:00 pm, we called it quits and came inside to prepare for our nightly visit with Jeff.  The patio was cleared of boxes and swept clean; it looked like a patio again!  We brought him a bag of plums freshly picked from our tree.

I also picked one up from the ground because it had just fallen but before getting down, I remembered!

Indeed!

We returned home and nibbled at the last of the Chinese leftovers before going to bed.  We opted not to jump in the pool tonight unless Dianne calls us and we join her for a dip!  By 9:30 pm, we assumed she wouldn’t join us, so we crashed.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
