Recovery Day #8; I Is Recovered!

I Just burned 2,000 calories. That’s the last time I leave brownies in the oven while I nap.

We were up and moving fairly early this morning.  Since we are going to “girls night out,” we ignored our cravings for breakfast and went directly to walking Scout, The Wonder Dog.  Last night Scout gave up going between bedrooms and decided he was staking out the living room for himself.  We brought his bed from home and popped in the perfect spot!  He can lay down and get a 270-degree view of the living room, entranceway, dining room, back yard, and the entry to the kitchen.

We departed home at 11:20 AM and headed to the Santa Ana Elks Lodge. As we backed out, we saw a truck that did not look familiar, and Mary had a great idea, snap a picture just in case something is wrong.  Well, nothing was wrong, but I thought I would share the picture anyway!

Someone is getting something fixed!

We are off with the Silver Fox churning out horsepower like there was no tomorrow.  I think it was because Mary was patting him on the dashboard, encouraging greater amounts of speed.

As we were accelerating past Mach 3, we were talking about health issues. I told her, “The worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades.” Of course, with Mary, I was assured a comeback, and after 43 milliseconds, she replied, “Paul, the problem isn’t that obesity runs in your family. The problem is no one runs in your family.”

We arrived at the Elks right on time with six minutes to spare.  After five minutes, Mary was no longer worried about being out with “the guys.”  She significantly improved the level of the conversations as everyone attempted to use at least two-syllable words in her presence.  Then there was Bob Z, who observed, “When wearing a bikini, women reveal 90 % of their body… I am so polite they only look at the covered parts.”

Dr. Bob, a true gentleman, and scholar (oops, cancel the scholar part)

MAry, constantly watching out for my health, ordered a sandwich and a salad and gave me a small bowl of lettuce.  She did say, “Happy grazing, dear.”

Preparing my plate!

Dr. Capps and Dr. Zaitz talked about finances leaving Mary and me in the dark. They were talking about the market, and it sounded like they were talking dirty.  We told them, “We got an E-Trade account… It turns out we can turn $1,000 into $420 in less than a week.”

We told them that we put out money in the refrigerator? Why, you ask?  Are you ready? We like cold hard cash.

We kept Dr. Capps in stitches most of the meal!

We had a couple of drinks and then headed out to go to Jan Mongell’s as we have a “meals on wheels” delivery to make! We made a fly-by as Mary has an eye doctor appointment in Orange at 2:45 PM.

I was very proud to have Miss Mary with me today, and perhaps we can get some of the other ladies to join us next time!

Eye doctors and their jokes are pretty funny.  Mary tells the first one. She says, “A Ukrainian guy came into my office last week. The bottom line of the eye chart has the letters:

C Z Y N Q S T A S Z.

I asked, “Can you read this?” “Read it?” the guy replies, “I know the guy!”

Well, not to be one-upped, the doctor replies to mary with, “A man goes to the eye doctor. He sits down, and the receptionist asks him why he is there. The man complains I keep seeing spots in front of my eyes. The receptionist asks, Have you ever seen a doctor?” to which the man replies, No, just spots.”  I gasped for air and left the room, mumbling, “Please no more, please!”

Her vision is excellent, but she still hangs around me?

Leaving the appointment, we pass by Mary’s place to take out the trash cans, pick up some goodies, start the cars, etc.   We visited the garden, and Mary is ready to go picking!

We see broccoli-cheese soup shortly!

We visited and talked to all the veggies giving them fair warning of what is in their future!

The serious part of the evening begins, we stopped to see Jim at the Rob Trader.  One of the regulars was holding up the bar, so we assisted him for about 30 minutes before going home.

We had a small dinner of leftovers, watched Two and a Half Men, and crashed.  Scout had assumed the position and was keeping an eye on us.

Scout is a delightful member of our merry Mary band!

We talked to Lisa as Pete was not feeling well.  We will check up on him later!

Just before hitting the sack, we shared with Greg and he is going to get a hold of Lisa and provide some assistance.

A good friend in this time of need!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
