Hump Day Is Over!

At income tax time, did you ever notice: When you put the two words ‘The’ and ‘IRS’ together it spells  …  ‘THEIRS’?

Yes… I was thinking about estimated taxes! We are not due until June but I have been planning ahead and am ready for the pain! It really makes me mad when I see our elected officials acting like second graders…our Congress is a travesty of little school kids!

Anywho, I got up this morning early…as an old man usually does…and went into the kitchen passing by the dining room table. Damned thing reached out and bit me in the toe. 4:30 AM and I cannot scream! I swallowed the scream hoping I could release in after my bride wakes up!

A truth I rediscovered last night!

We worked on the puzzle from H E double-toothpicks…got twelve more pieces into place…only 300+ to go!

As soon as it warmed up, I walked the garden so see what was what! First the back yard, north of the ol’ swimming hole!

Growing like Topsy!

Remember the pumpkins we plant for the grand/great grand children? Well, they are moving fast! Take a peak!

When I go into the yard, I should bring my cereal as there are always strawberries to pick! Our great granddaughter loves to go into the garden with papa and search for things to eat! Wait until she sees the blackberries in about a month!

Off to the doctors we go for a 11:15 AM appointment. Dr. Pauer, a beautiful lady I might add, was the one who told us Sue had lung cancer 23 years ago…she was just a newbie. She gave Sue the all clear today and promised to go out dancing with us in September! Yeah!

Lunch time…decisions decisions. We opted for Mama’s which is local. Great food and a terrific staff! It used to be a Shakey’s Pizza joint but became Mama’s recently.

After lunch we had time to kill as our cleaning folks were busy so we did a Cold Stone Creamery run! I do NOT do PB*C Milkshakes! We have to draw the line somehwere!

Did You Know? All ice cream creations are offered in four sizes: Kid’s size (3 oz (85 g)), “Like It” (5 oz (140 g)), “Love It” (8 oz (230 g)), and “Gotta Have It” (12 oz (340 g)).  Also offered are milkshakes and smoothies, among them the Cold Stone PB&C; its large size was designated by Men’s Health Magazine as the most unhealthy drink in the USA for two consecutive years.  The drink has 2,010 calories, 131 grams of fat with 68 grams saturated fat, and 153 grams of sugar.

Leaving the Cold Stone, we passed by Bed, Bath & Beyond…kinda my handout. They know me well. I got some ice cube trays as the lemon tree has gone into overdrive producing lemons the size of baseballs. After taking a bag to each of our neighbors, we still had a gaggle remaining. Lemon trees can produce up to 600lbs of lemons every year.

To get to the lemons, I went onto the garage roof (quietly as Sue would have a hemorrhage if she found me up on a ladder). I reached the top of the tree and picked, and let roll down the roof line, about 30 lemons!

Mitch gave us an electric juicer twenty-five years ago and it is still going strong. I made juice and filled four ice cube trays plus made a gallon of pretty tangy lemondae!

The tree needed supports to keep the branches from breaking!

While up on the roof, I also picked about 150 tangerines which we did not pick in their prime…they were mostly dry and I wanted them gone. They just hit the ground and I composted them..returning to the dirt!

After cleaning up the “mess”, I decided to check my eyes for light leaks… Took about two hours but no leaks were detected.

On Mother’s Day, we had twelve going to a local establishment but we added two more people. I called the establishment and they said “What reservation?” Talk about pissed, I hung up the phone so hard it probably broke is iPhone screen!

I made a call to Catal in Downtown Disney, talked to the GM, and we have a private room for Mother’s Day. We have our local kids and their families coming (two daughters and our son) plus Donna & Bob and their daughter, Leon & Marsha, and of course Irene! Lisa and Pete are TBD as Lisa’s kids may come over and stay with them on Mother’s Day.

Four years ago at Catal in Downtown Disney…Love our family and friends!

It’s gonna be a party as we have the Piccolo Room reserved! It’s so nice to have our kids all together and they enjoy each others company so much! We will miss Colleen but will likely call her on the bat phone so everyone can say hello! Mitch is going to join us also so that will make it special!

My mother gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, she believed in me.  I remember Mom…

The Nude (Circa 1954)  – Mom took art lessons at Venice High School in 1958.  She was doing fine for the first 12 classes.  Once evening she left for school and was back in about 90 minutes…. She steamed in the door.  Dad asked what was wrong… All mom could muster was the words…”Paul, you should have seen what she did… sitting there all open!… I’ll never go back!!”  Seems as though they had a body portrait session… with a live nude!

We watched a little TV and crashed about midnight. Tomorrow is lunch with Miss Robin, our oldest, and then we dance the night away at the Phoenix Club!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
