We Be Retired Twelve Years Today!

Work hard and save your money and when you are old you will be able to buy the things only the young can enjoy!

It was twelve years that we walked out of Boeing hand-in-hand aiming at retirement. Since we both worked so hard, we figured it would be difficult to get used to…by Monday afternoon, we were in the swing of retirement…go go go! Just us against the world!

That was the day we began this blog. The first post was difficult. Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.

It’s been a hoot and we have a lot more hootin’ to do!

To celebrate we have reserved a suite on the 2020 Silver Seas World Cruise… Departing January 6 from Ft. Lauderdale, Silver Whisper will traverse the globe to 62 ports in 32 countries, covering all 7 continents in 140 days, a world cruise first! With 13 overnights and numerous late-night stays, we will have plenty of opportunities to get immersed in the vibrant cultures and vivid locales. We were assured of live music and dancing every night. Who knows what life has in for us…but if you don’t ask, you don’t get!

Around the world!

So the day gets started with champagne (non-alcoholic) and an hour session with the puzzle. This is seems to be a little difficult but we will finish it off with no problems.

We had lunch at home even though it was an anniversary…we enjoy each others company and leftovers are pretty good! I am finished off the last of the corned beef and then I return to watching my weight…210, ain’t too bad!

Our daughters all called to wish us a happy anniversary…Robin, Michele, and Colleen were first then we got calls from Joe, Lisa, and several other friends. Nice to be remembered by those who care!

We are restarting Gilmore Girls. We watched it a year ago but that’s when Sue was sick and does not remember much. I am just old and don’t remember much but it is good so here we go. Only 151 episodes to go!

I took a short nap in the afternoon before getting ready to go to the theater in Cerritos.

We called Aunt Kaye and she has adapted to the assisted care facility very well. Our wonderful kids, older grandkids, and friends are sending her cards once a month with pictures and she really loves the mail!

We saw Don McLean who made his mark on music history with the No. One hit American Pie. An American musical treasure, McLean has amassed more than 40 Gold and Platinum records worldwide. He was inducted into the Popular Music Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2004. McLean’s other hits include And I Love You So, Vincent (Starry Starry Night), and the international No. One song Crying.

A magnificent day it was!

We have great seats, six rows back on the aisle. Who wants the center when we can make it to the bar faster than anyone else plus we always get to sit by the fireplace. Yes, life is good…no, strike that, EXCELLENT!

Listen carefully

But then “stuff happens”… Out battery was “dead” when we got to the car. I whipped out the AAA card and made a call. We have been members for 47 years and perhaps made five calls over those years. The nice man came out in about 15 minutes and jumped us…I decided to get a new battery in the morning if it were still dead in the morning. We were amazed as we had an app that showed where the tow truck was plus we got text messages continually until he showed up… ain’t computers great?

We watched two episodes of Gilmore Girls and crashed at 12:30 PM. It was a wonderful day!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
