Day one of retirement and we are ridiculously happy. No more stupidity—our meetings are now limited to “coffee or tea?” and “nap now or later?”
After 75 years (give or take a few time zones) working at NAA, Rockwell, and Boeing, it’s officially time to relax and enjoy life. A lot of it was genuinely satisfying… right up until the “changes” started—like Boeing buying Rockwell and turning the place inside out like an overstuffed pocket.
Suddenly, we had programs run by people who couldn’t manage a microwave, management inventing busy work as if it were an Olympic sport, and non-mainstream organizations thriving on silly expenditures of effort for absolutely nothing.
Now? Our effort will be spent on the important stuff: living well, laughing often, and doing absolutely nothing on purpose.
George Jeffs used to say, “Just meat and potatoes,” and now we get a diet of “Baloney and hot air!”
However, in the 40+ years I (Paul) was there, the happy times far outweigh the recent turn of events. Getting to work for the likes of George Jeffs, Charlie Feltz, Charlie Helms, Ed Smith, Ben Boykin, and Sy Rubenstein was better than great… it was amazing! Working on Apollo, Shuttle, “the black world”, and even, yes, the IT community was an education in and of itself.

Done with it!
