Today was “T-Day”. We had to go to the nice tax lady who we have had for a quarter of a century! Sue is well organized, so we only spent 45 minutes there and about half of that sharing the last years activities.
After returning home, Paul worked in the garden for a while and Sue did some chores. Sue fixed a great lunch and then Paul headed to the garden again to do battle with the varmits.
Paul was battling the sow bugs those pesky little critters! These guys have more names that a common criminal! The are called armadillo bug, boat-builder, butcher boy, cheeselog, cheesy bobs, chiggy pig, doodlebug, gramersow, granny grey, pill bug, potato bug, roll up bug, roly-poly, sow bug, slater, and wood bug.
Paul resorted to “Bug-Bait” which he has used for years. It is safe around plants and animals and it gets rid of these little buggers quickly! Normally Paul leaves them alone but they got into the strawberries and that was…. ready for this?… the last straw!
Did You Know? A woodlouse (plural woodlice) is an isopod crustacean with a rigid, segmented, long exoskeleton and fourteen jointed limbs. Mostly they feed on dead plant material, and they are usually active at night. Woodlice form the suborder Oniscidea within the order Isopoda, with over 5,000 known species.
Woodlice in the genus Armadillidium and in the family Armadillidae can roll up into an almost perfect sphere as a defensive mechanism, hence some of the common names such as pill bug or roly-poly. Most woodlice, however, cannot do this.
Although woodlice, like earthworms, are generally considered beneficial in gardens for their role in controlling pests, producing compost and overturning the soil, they have also been known to feed on cultivated plants, such as ripening strawberries and tender seedlings.
After lunch, we got cleaned up and headed to Old Ranch arriving about 3:00 PM for a pre-dinner cocktail. We met up with Bunnaford and exchanged the latest.
At 4:40 PM, we went across the street to Kobe Steakhouse where we have dinner with Joe, Jennifer and Lexi plus Irene and Greg. Jennifer is our bartender at Malarkey’s and she has a nice family so we decided they needed to go to dinner with us. Serendipity struck as tomorrow is Joe’s birthday so we had the staff sing to him (See the video). Please join the party video!
Sue has the wait staff trained, they prepare her vegetable fried rice with extra egg in a separate pan in the kitchen!
After dinner, we headed for home to do the treadmill and we watched NCIS, Columbo and Cheers until about 12:30 AM before crashing!
