We began early working in the garden and pulling cabbage for our sauerkraut and broccoli for soup and freezing for later.
Once the pulling and picking was done, the veggies go inside where magic takes place. Sue turns veggies into wonderful creations! Today it was broccoli cheese soup and sauerkraut.
Did you know? – Sauerkraut directly translated from German is: “sour herb” or “sour cabbage”. It is finely shredded cabbage that has been fermented by various lactic acid bacteria, including Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus. It has a long shelf-life and a distinctive sour flavor, both of which result from the lactic acid that forms when the bacteria ferment the sugars in the cabbage.
Our cleaning people come today so we are out of here and the best place to go for lunch, the Himalayan Grill down in Sunset Beach. Cool day and warm delicious foodies… Life is good!
Did you know? – Thukpa (Tibetan: thug pa) is a Tibetan noodle soup, usually served with meat. It is popular in Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, and also in the states of Sikkim, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh and some other parts of India. The food is widely available in restaurants in these regions. After a great lunch, we went to see Kat!
Upon arriving home, the day was young so Sue and I hit the kitchen again and made another batch of broccoli for freezing. That took about an hour and then we hit the treadmill and the TV movies.
The first movie was a Christmas movie we had not seen this past season! “Farewell Mr. Kringle“. Summary:Farewell Mr. Kringle is a heartwarming Hallmark Channel movie about skeptical journalist Anna Walls (Christine Taylor), who is assigned to chronicle the 50th anniversary of Kris Kringle (W. Morgan Sheppard), a Santa Claus in the town of Mistletoe. As her involvement in the town grows, she begins to open up to the enchantment of Christmas and some other wonders of the season.
After 50 years, Mistletoe’s Santa Claus is hanging up his hat and Walls, a magazine writer, is assigned to find out what makes this Santa tick. Having tragically lost her husband on Christmas Eve, Anna has become a nonbeliever. But with the help of Mark Stafford (Christopher Wiehl), a former cutthroat divorce lawyer turned compassionate bed and breakfast owner, she finds there is something magical about this particular Santa.
Through various conversations with the townspeople, Anna quickly discovers how much Kris Kringle means to the small town, and how much Christmas means to Kris Kringle. And having lost his wife years before in an automobile accident on the week of Christmas, he honors his wife by being Santa Claus all year long; therefore, he is the perfect person to show Anna the true meaning of Christmas! He brings so much joy and happiness to the town that they changed the name from Summerland to Mistletoe and renamed all the local shops and streets. Through his benevolence and altruism, he brings Christmas magic to everyone. All the while Mark recaptures more than just Anna’s Christmas spirit!
Begin brave (and not having to gold until noon), we watched another movie… An oldie with Ida Lupino entitled “Pillow To Post” from 1945. Summary: Due to the wartime man shortage, formerly idle Jean Howard becomes a sales representative for her father’s oil-drilling equipment company. She’s just getting the hang of it when she’s stranded in an army-base town with no place to stay…unless she’s an Army bride. Unsuspecting Lieut. Mallory is fast-talked into registering as her husband, then finds his commanding officer is living at the same motel; and that’s just the start of the complications. Lots of physical comedy.
