After the Zoo and LA Farmer’s Market we were ready for Christmas movies! We saw three this evening finally hirring the hay at 12:30!
“An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving” In summary: Scarlet fever, and other diseases that we have medicines for today, was a killer. It was set on a farm in New Hampshire just after the Civil War. Tilly, the oldest of three children, is a writer who concocts an incredible story to get her wealthy grandmother to come up. Then, as now, people were worried about losing their homes in foreclosure. Ellis Bassett was killed in the war and Mrs. Bassett has to pay rent to Mr. Hopkins, whose son. Gad, wants to marry Tilly, but her mother opposes it. Where does she go? What does she do? Watch the movie and find out.
This movie was followed by “Naught Or Nice” . Summary: George Lopez stars as an antagonistic sports-radio DJ challenged to be nice on the air by an ill boy, whose condition improves with the jock’s new approach. A Chicago sports radio shock jock (George Lopez) is changed by a Christmas season encounter with a 15-year-old fan (James Kirk) who is dying of a heart condition, who forces him to be nice for a day.
Late?? Nope! One more! “All I Want For Christmas” was funny and a feel-good movie. Summary: Anxious to help his struggling, widowed mom SARA, 10 year old JESSIE enters a national essay contest. But Jessie’s winning entry, “All I Want for Christmas is a Husband for my Mom,” has unforeseen consequences as Sara is vaulted into the national spotlight and dazzled into accepting a proposal from a wealthy man she may not love.
