Fact: Corned Beef and Cabbage Was an American Innovation – The meal that became a St. Patrick’s Day staple across the country—corned beef and cabbage—was an American innovation. While ham and cabbage were eaten in Ireland, corned beef offered a cheaper substitute for impoverished immigrants. Irish-Americans living in the slums of lower Manhattan in the late 19th century and early 20th purchased leftover corned beef from ships returning from the tea trade in China. The Irish would boil the beef three times—the last time with cabbage—to remove some of the brine.

Yummy!!
First things first, exercise! OMG, we had to get up at 6:00 AM to get to the gym at 8:00 AM so we could be home at 9:00 AM for the electricians. We are on a tight schedule.
The electricians will be at our house for maybe four days adding a lot of circuitry and changing out the main power panel.

The torture chamber!
To get out of the guy’s way, we decided to go to breakfast at Rockwell’s, which is about a mile and a half from where we live. We ordered two breakfasts and shared them three ways; unfortunately, I got half of each of theirs, which means I had a whole one, there goes my diet.

Rockwell’s for breakfast!
Returning home for a few minutes, we headed for the Santa Ana Elks Lodge to go to Thursday’s “Girls night out.” St. Patrick got me thinking. They say St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland, and I wonder if he could do that for Congress. Mary responded, “Why did St. Patrick drive all the snakes out of Ireland? He couldn’t afford plane fare.”
Colleen had her current favorite sweat shirt on; she got a lot of comments and many thumbs-up!

We arrived at the Santa Ana Elks!
The Lodge was nicely decorated, and everybody was wearing green which means I didn’t get a chance to pinch anybody, but I did sure look around to see if there was somebody available.

Looking green, I am!
As usual, we just enjoyed being there with everybody and each other.

I love that girl!
Our daughters are great friends and spend a lot of time talking to each other, giggling and laughing. I was offered a green beer and, of course, took it! I always drink green beer on St. Patricks Day! It counts as a vegetable!

Our daughters are amazing.
After returning home, we did a little bit of work around the house, and Colleen went to see her brother’s son’s soccer game. We had a few minutes to ourselves, so we decided to see Jan and get a free glass of wine plus catch up on the latest gossip.

We killed off a boggle of wine with Jan.
Before sunset, we drove off to head for home, and we could not resist taking a picture of the moon which was beautifully centered between Jan’s Palm trees in the front yard.

Hello Moom!
Mary and I retired, so by 8:30 PM, we hit the sack and watched a movie and do not know when Colleen came home, but I’m sure it was before the curfew, ha, haha!
