Good Deeds Day

What’s the difference between a hippo and a zippo? One is really heavy and the other is a little lighter!

Mary has a dear friend who is in her 90s and needs help with all the doctors she must go see.  Dr. Mary travels to Banning, where they reside, and takes her to the doctors appointments as the diagnoses are often complicated.  I have had the honor to taking Mary there for the last several months.  It reminds me of “Ol Dave” who I took care of for almost ten years. Just another thing that Mary and I share, amazing!

Getting ready to go!

So we arrive and I drop of the ladies at the doctors office.  I remember my iPhone cable is still packed away from this weekend so I decide to go to WalMart and get a new one.  The adventure begins!  I am inside and all of a sudden, it goes black. I thought to myself, “This is the big one!” Nope, it was a massive power failure.  The whole south side of the city of Banning was dark.

We are ushered out and then it begins. 500 cars leaving WalMart at the same time and the traffic signals are out.  It’s a nightmare!  I weaved my way through the traffic only to get stopped a few blocks away by a long long choo-choo train1

I attempted to count the cars but I ran out of fingers and toes. I got to twenty-one and had to quit!

We finally made it home and Mary fixed an amazing dinner and we dined on the patio.  She made chili and was it good or what?  The chef was asked to come outside and take a bow.  Mary did the magic I simply sliced, diced, and opened tin cans!

Mary refused to tell me her secret chili recipe. She said she would when she turns 85 years old. Then she will spill the beans. I asked why she put in only put 239 beans in the chili?
She responded with, “Because one more bean would’ve made it too farty”. Mary said the secret to making slow cooked chili is placing the bay leaf on top, not the bottom.
A good chili doesn’t rest on its laurels.

The chef takes a bow!

I was carrying a bowl of chili from the kitchen and Scout ran in and caused me to drop the entire bowl on top of him, covering him in chili. Now he’s a chili dog.

The chili was magnificent and I pigged out, piling my bowl extra high!  She threw in one of her world famous drumsticks and part of last nights baked potato.  It was a veritable feast!

We did have to change the bowls out every few minutes as the ceramic started to melt due to the intense heat!  On the bright side, we could put our hands directly above the chili to ward off the cold!

Good groceries!

The patio was perfect as it was still warm from the day and it was protected from the winds which are getting worse as the day progresses. We enjoyed a glass of wine as we discussed the day and plans for this evening.

Dining on the patio!

we called Colleen and Robin on the Bat Phone (Alexa Show) and talked to them and laughed ourselves silly.  Moods were good on the east and west coast this evening.

After the phone call, I drug out the massage table and we tried the new sheets which had arrived this week.  The lights were turned down low, the candles were lit, and Chopin was doing his thing on our Alexa.  We watched “Two And A Half Men” giggling our way through the entire show.  We tried to watch a Christmas movie but failed.  It was time to call it a day.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend.
