It takes strength to make your way through grief, to grab hold of life, and let it pull you forward – Patti Davis.
We were playing golf in Sedona as we planned to stay a week and play various courses. It was HOT, well into the 100’s by the 15th hole. She never complained and just kept blasting that silly ball right down the center of the fairway. She was my coach, not a job I would want to take on, and my biggest fan! Those many hundreds of hours playing with her will always live with me. I signed up as a golf member again at Old Ranch today, so I plan to start playing two days a week next week (Tuesdays & Thursdays), at least nine holes and eighteen as the weather warms up. Sue would be proud of me. I miss her so very much!
For the past 48 years, Sue had everything insured through Liberty Mutual, and so did I, but when I had her name removed from the auto policy, the cost went UP!!! I asked and got some severe mumbling, so I asked friends. When I said, I was paying $7,000/year for both cars; they nearly passed out. So I called AAA and State Farm, both came in $4,000 less expensive. Command decision time, and I opted to cancel out Liberty Mutual and go with AAA. Between the house, cars, and umbrella policy, I saved close to $6,000/year! Wow! I should mention that before I pulled the trigger, I called my financial advisor. He has been with me since the mid-1990s and saved the bacon more than once.
Back to work, meaning, I had to go to Lowe’s for additional packing boxes. The hallway closet was in my sights today. I packed five large boxes with six electric/heated blankets, 20 pool towels, eight afghans, 12 cubic-feet of towels, and a mess of table cloths and napkins. The closet is now almost empty! That closet has been packed for twenty years! Tomorrow’s decision is what to do with the boxes?
Lunchtime and I went to the freezer and decided shrimp would be a super source of protein and few calories. I fixed some rice with some greens and had a meal fit for a king!
Colleen got me some yeast, and it arrived today, so baking starts tomorrow morning.
At 6:00 PM, I needed to walk so down the street I strutted with crepe-paper dreamers tied to my hat so the cars would spot me as I crisscrossed through the hood. I heard some young ladies saying, “What is that moving so gracefully through the hood with the streamers?” I decided not to slow down because, at my speed, cameras just show a blur. I want to be known as the “Masked Streamer”.
They did look at me a little funny but figured out it was because I was listening to 1950s music and I was singing. “…Dumb Dooby Dumb, Whoooo-Oh, Dum Dooby Dooby Dum, Whoooo-O (Come Go With Me)”. That wasn’t as bad as me singing to “Sways With A Wiggle When She Walks (What Is Love?).” Listen below:
Sue and I danced to every 1950s piece of music ever made, but our favorite was “Come Go With Me” by the Del Vikings. On a cruise once, we were asked to do two encores of the dance because people enjoyed our dancing style. They wondered how we could dance and look at each other in the eyes and not miss a beat! The secret was we were on automatic!
Arriving home, I was happy as I managed 7,000 steps today, even with the short walk. I carefully folded up the streamers and plan to use them on the next walk!
The timing was just right for a snapshot f a group of roses.
No dinner tonight as I must get to 196 somehow! So I watched TV, Hulu has a new series called “Being Erica”. The show stars Erin Karpluk as Erica Strange, a woman who begins seeing a therapist to deal with regrets in her life, only to discover the therapist (Michael Riley) has the ability to send her back in time to actually relive these events and even change them. It ran from 2009 to 2011. I found it quite intriguing!
Marianne called and she got her FireStick setup and can watch movies now, she was very excited. I was thrilled for her that she set it up without any issues! Now we can watch shows and discuss them! Yeah!! Go Marianne!!
Bob emailed a map of the LA flyover by the Blue Angels tomorrow.
At 10:00 PM I decided it was time to take a shower and get ready for bed. Perhaps a cup of hot chocolate and then a little TV before sawing logs. Speaking of sawing logs, I plan to offer all my friends a new invention!
One last thought for the evening and it’s worth a listen. It will give you something to think about!
Good night all!
