I Was A Cut Up!

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

We were up at the crack of dawn, summoning all our zombie powers to get ready for an early morning expedition to Long Beach for a date with the doctor at the ungodly hour of 8:00 am.

After our showers, we went to the garden and picked some goodies for our doctor, hoping this would convince him to double the painkiller strength.

I had a squamous-cell cancer located adjacent to my knuckle, and it had to go!

The doctor popped in, we chatted about his recent vacations, and then he hit me with a local anesthesia, and the pain was gone.  My hand was right before me, and I watched with interest his use of the scalpel to remove tissue I had taken years to grow.

Front row seat!

I could hear the blade swishing in the air as he performed his famous GinSu knife procedure, which he learned on the Home Shopping Network.

I will rush home and weigh myself, hoping he took ten pounds!

We wrapped it up good and admonished me:  1) keep it clean, and 2) make sure you get a chocolate bon-bon on the hour every hour for the next two days!  He prescribed item number two (if Mary did not remember)!

Oh, the pain!!!!!

We thought we were getting close to the Elks, so we stopped for lunch and shared a turkey sandwich. I guess we took the whole ‘getting close to nature’ thing a bit too literally!

I had ordered a bowl of chili, but I was too full, so we gave it to our new bar buddy.

As at all Elks Lodges, we have met some really great people who are always friendly and ready to share!

We finally made it home, and I treated my cold like a boss with an arsenal of spicy pills and magical potions. My cold didn’t stand a chance! It was like my nose was hosting a fiery party, and only the snot was invited. On the bright side, I was feeling a lot better!!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
