Working In The Garden; Preparing For The Celebration!

AMEN!!

This morning, we began our work in the garden early in order to finish as much as we could before the temperature hit 90 degrees.  We accomplished quite a bit, but it became too hot around noon, and we had to take a break indoors to cool down.  By 3:30 pm, the temperature outside had risen to a scorching 93 degrees, while inside, it remained a comfortable 76 degrees.

It is so hot… the birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

I came across a box of Trailing Rosemary, but it appeared to be in poor condition.  I was unsuccessful despite my attempts to make a hole in the soil.  The plant was severely rootbound and overwatered, which is not ideal.

The plant is pretty when it blossoms

Trailing Rosemary is a type that grows at a low level, cascading and trailing.  It typically grows to a height of 2 inches to 1 foot (5-30 cm) and can spread up to 4 to 8 feet (1-2 m) if not properly maintained.  The ideal time to plant Rosemary is during the autumn season.

The roots, for the most part, were removed.  The old root-bound soil was cut away and tossed into the trash.  New soil was added, and three separate plants were placed back in the container.

I helped Mary plant her lettuce in the shade of the corn plants, and I added more melons and corn to the metal beds in the south forty.  Luckily, we have an automated watering system, so watering won’t be an issue while we’re away.

Mary left at 10:45 am in her car named Precious, accompanied by Scout the Wonder Dog.  She took him to the doctor’s appointment to get his allergy shot.  Mary and Scout came back after approximately 30 minutes.

“Who said shot?” I don’t need any stinking shots!

I told Mary about the special at the Vet store. “Buy one, get one flea.”  She decided not to take them up on their offer!

Mary entered the “exercise room,” sometimes called “the hat room,”  and decided it was time to get organized.   I tried to take a before picture, but I did not have a wide angle lens!

Although we have six bedrooms, three of them were repurposed.  The exercise room is a library, a storage area for gym equipment, and a closet that houses Mary’s dancing costumes and hats.

After several hours of organizing, everything was labeled correctly, arranged, and placed in the closet.  The machines and books were also put in an orderly manner, resulting in a neat and organized room.

Commit this to memory, you may never see it like this again!

We can now use our machines as something other than a hat rack!

After enjoying a light lunch sourced from our garden, we felt it was the perfect time for a refreshing swim in the pool, which was a comfortable 87 degrees.  However, as we made our way toward the pool, I almost stepped on one of the many lizards that reside in our surroundings.  The lizard gave me a curious look, likely confused as to why I had my iPhone in hand.

“Oh my goodness Paul, have you no decency?”

What kind of flooring do lizards use?  Reptiles.

I asked Mary, my beautiful blond, why she kept doing the backstroke.   She just had lunch and didn’t want to swim on a full stomach.  You have to love that girl!!

We floated around for an hour, enjoying the warm breeze that was blowing.  After an hour, we got out and sat by the firepit (without the fire) for another hour.  We changed our drink to 1/2 wine and 1/2 diet seven-up with ice cubes.  It was refreshing.

Ready For This? A Priest and a Rabbi a going for a walk.
After some time of walking and because its such a hot Summerday, they decide to go skinny dipping in a Lake nearby. After a long and refreshing swim, they return to the shore and find their clothes missing.

They both decide to risk it and return home as fast as possible.

As luck will have it, while in their way back they run into a group of People.

The Priest covers his genitals, while the Rabbi covers his Face.

After the People have left the Priest asks the Rabbi:”What was that supposed to be??”

The Rabbi smiling:”Well my Friend, my community recognizes me by my face.”

What do Mary and Mr. Lizard have in common?

I put the camera down (after a single shot)

While sitting at the firepit, taking in what was left of the sun, I heard a voice coming from the kitchen asking. “Are you decent?” In a hurry, we covered ourselves with towels and robes before meeting Colleen at the gathering spot.  She proceeded to share her afternoon experiences with her family.

We brought the TV to the breakfast room and finished watching a movie about Guantanamo Bay.  The Mauritanian is a 2021 legal drama film based on the memoir of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a Mauritanian man who was held from 2002 to 2016 without charge in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, a United States military prison.

After that, we watched two episodes of Suits.

The temperature inside the house was 78 degrees, so we turned on the whole house fan.  Almost instantly, the temperature dropped by ten degrees.  We finally went to bed and fell asleep.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
