Paul Got Shot!

I laughed out loud! Colleen won’t do that again!

To the garden, we went after 45 minutes of attempting to get an appointment with the TSA for our Global Entry credentials.   The government could screw up a wet dream, their site is beyond poor; it reminded me of some of the Boeing systems produced by their IT department.  We tried, yes, both of us on separate machines, to get an online appointment, and the software would stall, crash, or just throw us back to some silly government login site.  I tried to call but after waiting 45 minutes on the phone, my bitt got tired and I hunh up and took my frustration out in the garden!

I fired up the rototiller and off I went adding fifty quarts of mulch into the corn area plus some veggie food and a helping of phosphorus.

Back to the old grind.

The dead stalks went into the 90-gallon trash cans with ease (Mary did it!). We filled one can almost to the top!

Did You Know? After the fall’s corn harvest, the leftover stalks, leaves, husks, and cobs can be baled together and used as a good source of roughage (fibrous indigestible material in vegetable foodstuffs which aids the passage of food and waste products through the gut) for cattle.

When supplemented with nutrients, cornstalks can supply the nutritional needs of cows during fall and early winter. They can also be used as livestock bedding.

Corn stalks are made into paper and wallboard; husks are used as filling material; cobs are used directly for fuel, to make charcoal, and in the preparation of industrial solvents.

36 stalks to shove in the trash can!

The new corn went in nicely; the soil was perfect this time and the summer heat is approaching.  This new crop ought to be just fine in about 45 to 80 days from now!

The new babies go in!

The new babies are planted.

We placed the watering system around the base of each plant and then covered the plants with mulch to protect the roots from the heat.

Thirty-six replace the thirty-six bit with proper soil amendments and heat!

Mary said she was going out front and sure enough, the phone buzzed and the security camera saw her making he way to the front garden area.  She found some neat flowers that she wanted to put out front.

Tomorrow we work on the front yard!  We have some decorating to accomplish plus some additions to the drip system!

Caught on the security camera.

The corn is on the patio where it will get shucked as we need it.

Did You Know? Only 1% of corn planted in the United States is sweet corn.

This morning’s harvest! Corn for the next several meals!

We love the Flower Tower! MAry adds them to our meals for color (and taste).

The flower tower is overachieving.

Scout the Wonder Dog worked so hard yesterday that he had to rest today!  PArt of the reason is he got his vaccinations yesterday and that made him tired.

Lazy bones!

Ophelia was lovely so Mary got her some little friends to keep her company!

Ophelia has new friends!

The Herb Tower is doing exceptionally well and in fact, within the next week, we will be harvesting Jalapeno peppers and hopefully stuffing them with cream cheese!

The herb garden is going amazingly well!

We sat on the patio and scratched Scout but we had no wine; it was too early!  We will have wine a little later.

After four hours in the garden!

I was going to take Mary to lunch but after last week’s little display when I needed the waiter’s attention, I thought perhaps we would eat at home.

At 2:00 pm we went to the doctor’s office to get an injection for Paul’s arthritis of the thumbs. The doc said it would take several days to react and I would have some pain as he had to nudge the bones a bit.  It hurt like heck but it will likely be worth the pain!

Paul gets poked, twice; once is each thumb joint.

At the doctor’s office, I had a bright idea.  “How about we go to Patty’s Place for a nice dinner”, I said to the boss.  You could see the dancing filet mignons dancing in her head!

Well, I texted Vvicky to see what she was up to and she and Jim were available so the four of us landed at Patty’s at 5:00 pm!  We had our favorite table and favorite waitress.  It was an amazing dinner.

Jim and Vicky join us for dinner.

The girls swapped stories about family issues both of them face.  Jim and I talked about piers and potential cruises to join them on!

The luckiest men in Patty’s; we got the wonderful ladies!

Our favorite spot because when you order sushi, you just reach behind your head and grab it ; their sushi is very fresh!

Just us!

We texted Jeff and arranged to bring him some key lime pie from Patty’s; he was a happy camper when we showed up with dessert.

We took dessert home for our dear friend, Jeff.

We popped into the swim spa for a forty minute soak and then went to sleep like babies not waking up until 6:00 am the next morning.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
