Denzel Has It Right!

So very true!  This guy is one of the few Hollywood actors that we like!!

It was 59 degrees when we opened our eyes this morning, so we decided to work in the lovely and toasty office.  Mary made some phone calls to the dental folks, and we are hoping to get the tooth extraction done next week.

Dinner sometime this week was pulled from All Recipes Dot Com this morning.  These steak-wrapped asparagus rolls are packed with bold flavors, making the perfect well-balanced entrée or tasty appetizer.  Serve over rice or with a fresh arugula salad.  I love it when I pull out a recipe; soon after that, Mary comes up with her version.

Yummy with a capital “Y.”

The day was fantastic, but also great to be working outside!  The max was supposed to be 70 degrees with clouds, and that’s precisely what happened.

It was a glorious day!

We walked to the front yard to admire the new look; we must put a label on the gate to assist the delivery guys!

We love the new front yard.

Scout, The Wonder Dog, runs back and forth to check that Mary is watering everything according to specifications.   He is used to being in the front yard now and enjoys his time with us.  Scout told us the latest neighborhood gossip!  A local dog gave birth at the side of the road.  She got fined for littering.

Mary now waters through the picket fence; Scout verifies everything is wet!

The sweetpea bed has been turned to bell peppers and some additional tomatoes.  We have had crows dig into the straw, so I put a string between the tomato cages, and now the crows do not bother the area.

The sweetpea area is growing but had a bird issue which was fixed!

The white corn is doing nicely.  The yellow corn has already tasseled, and several corns are showing with their silks waving in the breeze.

What do you call buying a huge amount of corn at once?  Stalk investment.

Did You Know?  White Corn vs. Yellow Corn: Yellow corn contains slightly more nutritional value than white corn because the pigment that makes corn yellow, beta carotene, turns into vitamin A when digested.  Yellow corn is also a good source of lutein.  In terms of sweetness, the variety of corn determines its flavor profile, not the color of the kernels.

The white cornin is doing well.

The garden was done for the day; now I turned my attention to the “He Shed,” and I could get inside again after thirty minutes!

Storage Unit #1, the He Shed!

We keep gardening supplies and tools inside, plus various tarps, extension cords, tables and chairs, ropes, drip-line parts,  and power tools.  Of course, we have a workbench and vise plus an Alexa unit which can be used as an intercom.  We added power and lights last year.

While clearing out the shed, I found a box full of dead batteries. I’m giving them away free of charge.

I am organized, sort of!

The shed was a great idea as now the garage has room!  I may move our 10KW generator back to the shed to give us more space in the garage!

I was carrying back gardening tools to the shed and dropped one.  My wife yells from behind me. “Yee haw, it’s a hoe down.”

I was showing Mary the tool shed after I cleaned it up.  I said, “That’s my step ladder,” and added, “I’ve never met my real ladder.”

We can get inside now!

We watched a movie while addressing invitations to the Second Anniversary/Birthday party we plan in July.  It seems incredible that we are already married for two years and been together for three.  Life does not get better than this!

We finished off “The Lincoln Detective” series but discovered another season would begin on the 8th of July!

We worked on the party invitations before Jeff arrived!

Jeff has been telling us about this place for quite a while, and finally, we are going.  Jeff introduced us to Jeff’s.  It is a small eatery run by a retired food supplier who wanted to run his own business.  The food was terrific.  Jeff and I went for the steak while Mary did Salmon.  We killed off a bottle of wine while enjoying Jeff’s company!

Jeff shows us Jeff’s

The ceviche was super, so I texted a photo to Miss Vicky.  Ceviche is a seafood dish where diced cubes of raw fish, marinated in a lemon or lime juice mixture, react with the citrus juices to cure the fish protein and causes it to become opaque and firm while absorbing flavor.

Ceviche is typically served at lunch or brunch, and because it is so light and refreshing, it’s popular at the beach.  Ceviche restaurants (“cevicherias”) often close around 4 p.m. because the fish caught in the morning is no longer fresh by afternoon.

Jeff and Jeff propose a toast!

Here’s to you!  Two Jeffs!

We headed home at about 7:30 pm after devouring a magnificent steak, and we even shared some cheesecake!  I hid our bathroom scale and will return it in two days!

We were heading home after a marvelous dinner.

We went right to bed and crashed; it was another crazy day!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
