Memories: I Had To Work For By Christmas Present! I wanted a bicycle for Christmas when I was ten. Well, that Christmas morning, I got up and raced to the tree, and there was no bicycle. I was crushed. Mom and Dad got up and said I should look under the tree. I thought they were kidding, but I did keep looking. How could a bicycle be under the tree? Then I saw a tiny bike with a string and a note attached to it!
I read the note, and it said, “Follow the string!”. I pulled on the string, and it went out the back door of our home. I was in my bathrobe, and it was cold, but that did not stop me.
The string was followed to our neighbor’s tree, and then it went around the front of their house to our tree. I was beginning to wonder what was going on. I followed the string again, and it went next door to the Miyauchio’s driveway and was attached to their car. I asked myself, how much string was used? From the car, the string went to Muyauchi’s backyard and was tied to the gate that went to the alleyway.
I followed the string back into our backyard via the gate. When I entered our yard, the line entered a door at the back of our garage, and I ran out of steam. I went through the door, and there it was, Mom and Dad laughing and a brand new 21″ red bicycle with electric horns and lights on the handlebars. It was a 1954 Schwinn Red Phantom!
I”ll bet Dad used five balls of 1000′ kite string to pull this off, and I had no idea when he did it, but it was after 9:00 pm the night before.
I rode that bike for years and years!
Today we expect more rain but not nearly as brutal as this weekend. We did some decorating for St. Patrick’s Day, and Mary mailed the invitations to St. Patrick’s day to ALL our kids (including Colleen).
The decorator from La-Z-Boy called and canceled our appointment, which was annoying since we had rescheduled several other activities. The next shot is Saturday morning.
We went to Mary’s orthodontist at 10:30 am, located in Huntington Beach, and there was no rain! The drive was easy. She had x-rays done, and I fell sound asleep in the waiting room.
She was done quickly, and we decided to dine at home instead of going out since it was a much better meal, quiet and GREAT company!
The clouds are again forming, so we expect light rain this evening,
When I checked the messages, I got an invite from Vicky (and Jim) to join them at the Elks on Friday evening. No dancing but a time to sit back and visit! Yeah. We asked Bob and Donna Z to join us.
In the afternoon, we went to PT, and it was raining when Mary was done at about 5:15 pm. We had foodies in the back seat for Jan, dropped them off, and stayed for a glass of wine. We keep Jan well-fed, which is great because it allows us to cook more things and not have them twice or thrice. We called Brenda to say hello and invited her to the Elks on Saturday.
We also called our friend Mike Jonas to check in, and he said the El Dorado Park band plays on Wednesdays, so we are considering joining them for a while.
We departed Jan’s just after sunset, and the rain was slight.
