Things Are Beginning To Return To Normal

Fact: Sung by Bing Crosby, “White Christmas” is one of the most popular Christmas carols ever written.  Irving Berlin wrote the song for the 1942 movie “Holiday Inn,” starring Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds, and it won the Academy Award for Best Song of the Year that year.  It was not until 1954 that it became the title song in the movie “White Christmas.” Bing Crosby’s recording of the song has been named the best-selling single of all time by Guinness World Records, as it has sold more than 100 million copies around the world.  “White Christmas” is also the most recorded Christmas song of all time, with over 500 different recordings.

We got up late, 7:00 AM!  The day was made for relaxation!   We did our morning garden tour, and we found our first born!  We have cauliflowers forming.

Did You Know?  The word cauliflower derives from the Latin words caulis (cabbage) and fl?s (flower), reflecting its membership in the cabbage family.  In the 18th century, broccoli and cauliflower were introduced to Northern Europe, particularly England and France.

Our first cauliflower.

Did You Know? Eating them lowers the chance of cancer due to the presence of glucosinolates and isothiocyanate. Glucosinolates are a category of compounds found in cauliflower. These ingredients are broken down into compounds that may help prevent cancer by protecting cells from harm and having anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial actions as you chew and digest it. It also helps in preventing heart disease, and brain diseases. Additionally, it aids in gastrointestinal relief, bodily purification, enhanced iron absorption, and weight loss.

We are growing several different colors in the new garden.

I decided to continue putting together Mary’s second potting table; I did not make too much progress before we had to go out and about.  Tomorrow I will attack it with vigor and perhaps a small can of lighter fluid.

8.345.323 pieces!

The cleaning folks were here, and we worked in the office until they were ready to clean our hiding place.  As they came into the inner sanctum, we went to the Elks for lunch and met up with Bob Z. We had a great time reliving the past few days.

Bob says goodbye to the Elks!

Everything was decorated today!!

I should have never had that last drink!

After lunch, we zoomed by CVS to get some prescriptions; then we went to Taco Mesa, where we ordered food for the 30th (our friends from Disneyland are joining us for the afternoon), and finally, we hit Ralph’s for mission-critical supplies!

We ran into an old friend.

Ed is an old friend from the Packard Club!

The Fords were meeting here today!

Taco Mesa has excellent food, and they do catering.  We had a lovely helper serving us today, and she had several excellent suggestions.  All Mexican chefs live their lives only by seasoning the moment.

Q: What type of toppings does a duck want on its taco?
A: Quack-amole.

Lunch is ordered.

Owner & Chef, Ivan Calderron

Since we were so close to Jan’s, we stopped by and brought her some sushi.  Of cource, we  had a glass of wine with her.

As soon as we got home, we went into the Swim Spa for an evening of watching the stars in the sky!  One of the stars turned out to be Jupiter.

Time for a dip!

We were good as we had adult supervision; he kept his eyes “on us”  the entire time.  No hanky-panky today!

Scout supervises all!

Finally, Mary watched four episodes of “Jack Ryan (Paul watched one and a half episodes) ” while he kept us from going to war with unofficial Russians.  We hit the sack at 10:00 PM after folding clothes and planning tomorrow’s events.  We have a busy few days ahead of us!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
