Fact: A one-way trip on the Trans-Siberian Railway involves crossing 3,901 bridges. The Trans-Siberian Railway is the longest railroad in Russia, but it’s also the longest one in the world. The journey takes seven days, during which time passengers pass through eight different time zones and cross 3,901 bridges.
6:30 am, and I am peacefully asleep when Scout The Wonder Dog comes around to the side of the bed and puts his freezing nose on me. I must have jumped three feet, not expecting a cold, wet kiss on the face. “Ok, Doggie,” I exclaimed, and I lumbered out of bed, put on a robe, and crept out of the bedroom with Scout directly behind me, just waiting to apply his frigid nose someplace on my body.
I checked the temperature, and it was in the 60s, so I went back to bed, and he patrolled the yard for the next hour. At 7:30 am, he got breakfast after I called him several times. Breakfast consisted of bone-flavored coffee and filet mignon; well, that’s what I told him it was!
We worked around the house until it was time to go to the Elks for our regular “Girls Night Out.” We were going to go to Huntington Beach and pick up my new glasses, but alas, we walked Five Miles and just ran out of time. We also wanted to get to the Elks early as Robin was coming by to visit everyone after her bout with COVID.
We shared the three monkey pictures we took a couple of weeks ago with everyone the others wanted to get in on the fun. Iris, Will, and Bob are naturals.
I tried to do the same with my group at the end of the table, but that was not as successful. We were laughing too hard! I tried to make the picture by doing a selfie, but my arms were too short. Besides, the best selfies are the ones that aren’t
Since the selfie would not work, I turned the job over to Bob Z., and he showed that the girls didn’t want to see anything since Paul was not, well, let’s say… no, perhaps we ought not to say!
Robin needed a breathing device, the one you use to build up your lung capacity. We had one from my last operation at home, so Robin came home with us. We talked for a while, and Mary found the breathing machine. Robin had to leave to avoid the traffic, so she departed about 3:30 pm.
Mary and I decided to rest, so we got our reading devices; Mary has a giant Samsung with reader software, and I have a new Kindle Paperwhite. We read the same books believe it or not. Clive Cussler is our favorite.
Did You Know? Cussler began writing novels in 1965 and published his first work featuring his continuous series hero, Dirk Pitt, in 1973. His first non-fiction, The Sea Hunters, was released in 1996. The Board of Governors of the Maritime College, State University of New York, considered The Sea Hunters in lieu of a Ph.D. thesis and awarded Cussler a Doctor of Letters degree in May, 1997. It was the first time since the College was founded in 1874 that such a degree was bestowed.
Clive Cussler died at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona at the age of eighty-eight on February 24, 2020.
He wrote 177 books and we will likely read them all eventually. We read until about 8:00 pm and were reading while having a light dinner and a glass of wine.
When we went to bed, we both had rather read than watch TV so Mary had the Samsung and I had the Paperwhite and read until 11:00 pm when our eyes gave out.
