We Did A Miniaturized Version Of A Christmas Tradition

Why did Frosty the Snowman want a divorce? Because he thought his wife was a flake.

We were up early, not to catch the worm but to work on the puzzle and open the presidents.  We had our cup of coffee with eff nog instead of milk, yummy.  We called Colleen, Robin, Zack, and Lisa and talked with them all.  Everyone is having a great Christmas despite the plague.

Mary said, “Make sure there are no pictures of me that are unflattering,” so I am careful.  Mary did want to send a picture of her new slippers to Becky (her college roommates daughter), so I put on my thinking cap, and here it is:

I did it!

We then had breakfast as Miss Mary whooped up a super omelet and an avocado salad, double yummy.  We then cleaned up our mess because we were so excited we threw wrapping paper everywhere!

I got a nice note from Diane, Sue’s sister, and it contained a picture of an ornament that her daughters made for her.  I was misty-eyed, but Miss Mary came over and talked to me and settled me down; Mary is a compassionate and caring lady, and I am blessed to have her “on my side”!

Very thoughtful! Thank you, Hannah, Lisa, Diane, and Pat.

We watched a new series and then got cleaned up as we are going to my home today and have our regular Chinese dinner and watch “The Christmas Story” on the big screen TV.  It will be the Zaitz, Duda’s, Mary and me and Zack and Becca and family a little later in the evening.

The pandemic made my normal Christmas Day small this year but better safe than sorry. We will order the feast on-line for pick up later.  I had all the orders already and placed the call at about 3:30 PM for a 4:30 pickup, but I found out the size of my order, and their busy schedule meant we had to pick it up at 5:45 PM.  That worked out, OK!

Bob and Donna were the first to show up! Wonderful and supportive friend!

Of course, as soon as Bob arrives, he and I began our ritual of never letting a bottle go un-opened or un-drank?  CAUTION: Explicit activity immediately ahead!  Be careful; not only do the hats light up, but so do we!  Hic!!

Hit the little arrow IF YOU DARE!!!

We started the movie as soon a Robin and Bob (and Nick) got here.  After an hour, Bob and Nick went to pick up our food.  What have I done? It took two people to carry it in!

Mary had not seen this movie before…

Everybody, except Mary, chimed in as the movie progressed.  We hooted and howled and routed for the good guys and hissed at the bad guys!  We will put Mary in for serious training for next year! She had not seen the movie before.

A reduced Christmas Day event!  It was wonderful!

Robin, Bob, and Nick came in next.

Bob and Nick went to get the foodies, and we continued to watch the movie.  Around 7:00 PM we got a great Christmas present, Becca and Zack and family arrived!  WONDERFUL.  Made the day!

Becca was, as usual, delightful and filled with the spirit of Christmas… We really enjoyed their visit!!!

This year was tough, Zack lost his father and grandma, and I lost my son and wife.  It was a difficult evening, but thanks to our very supportive partners, not to mention our WONDERFUL family and friends, we made it through the holidays unscathed.  We missed Connor and Kerrick; they came down with the COVID-19, so they stayed home!

Zack tells us about the movie; he has been watching it with us for years now!

So, there is a long-standing “joke” that Papa Paul goes to sleep when watching a movie.  Well, guess what, Miss Mary and Paul do the same thing!  We are so very much alike; it is scary!

Are we made for each other or not??? Two birds of a feather, snoring together!

Robin was so incredibly helpful. When the Chinese invaded, she went to work.  All the stuff was opened, explained, and piled onto plates within minutes; gluttony sounds were heard for blocks.  Crunch, swallow, chew, burp, and an occasional fart (courtesy of Mary’s new fart machine) was heard as the food disappeared. We were all stuffed to the gills!

Lilly loved the Chinese, and she came to tell us what Santa had brought her for Christmas.

Lilly showed us all of her treasures from Santa; she was adorable!

Remy heard the “Fart Machine” and got the giggles, so he danced to the sudden outbursts and laughed so hard he almost did the same!

Remy was hilarious!  He was dancing to the Fart Machine!

Around 9:00 PM, everybody headed for home, and we were done in as we had laughed so hard we dang near, well, you know!  It was a wonderful Christmas celebration. We are so blessed to have each other, caring friends, and a wonderful family!

We missed Colleen and her family, Connor and Kerrick, Pete & Lisa, and of course, Greg.  To all of our friends, God Bless and may 2021 bring things back to normal!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
