We Had A Great Day! Grandkids And Dancing!

Paul walked this morning as he is attempting to get back in the saddle again after all the COPD related activities. We got a text from “Z” (our grandson)  and he asked us to join him, Becca and Tiger Lilly for dinner.  We went to La Habra and ate at Applebee’s.  Not too bad.  They knew what they liked… Paul headed for the “Lighter Fare” and Sue searched for something without meat!  Sue ended up with a pretzel.  Applebee’s is not overly vegetarian friendly.

When we arrived, Lilly saw grandma and broke out in a full run tackling grandma nearly knocking her over!  Funny sight to see!

Tiger Lilly loves her great grandma!

We got the latest update on Logan… All seems to be well!  We are very happy the baby is feeling better! (Logan is their dog who ended up with a twisted stomach and required an operation!)

Fun time with the grand kids!

Off to the Phoenix Club for dancing.  Ron and Nancy joined us to celebrate his retirement TODAY!  Next week, they are off to Japan for three months to study more about bonsai!

Retired today!

Paul could not resist a party so he went up front and tried to get a cake.  Alas, all gone!  After all it is the Phoenix Club so he ordered an full apple strudel and had whipped cream and candles added to it to celebrate the retirement!  Party time!  It was supposed to be a surprise but when Paul turned around, guess who was watching him order the cake and champagne…  Ron!

Great luck in Japan!

Out came the strudel and out came the smiles!  A bottle of champagne and we were all off and running!

Did You Know? A strudel  is a type of layered pastry with a filling that is usually sweet. It became popular in the 18th century through the Habsburg Empire. Strudel is Austrian cuisine.

The oldest strudel recipes (a Millirahmstrudel and a turnip strudel) are from 1696, in a handwritten cookbook at the Vienna City Library (formerly Wiener Stadtbibliothek).  The pastry descends from similar Near Eastern pastries (see baklava and Turkish cuisine). Strudel is an English loanword from German. The word derives from the German word Strudel, which in Middle High German literally means “whirlpool” or “eddy”.

Happy retirement Ron!

After the dance… We headed for home to watch a movie before crashing for the night!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
