We woke up to temperatures in the 50s, and our dog Scout hesitated to go outside. However, he eventually braved the chilly weather. We spent the morning working in the office, and finally, it’s starting to look more presentable.
I hate it when people act all intellectual and talk about Mozart when they’ve never even seen one of his paintings.
We got cleaned up and headed to the dentist. I got pulled over by a friendly police officer and got a ticket*. The conversation went like this:
Me: “What am I supposed to do with this speeding ticket?”
Officer, “Keep it. When you collect four of them, you get a bicycle”.
* I made it up; there was no officer and no ticket!
After receiving a new crown, we drove along Pacific Coast Highway to Patty’s Place in Seal Beach. Traffic was light, so we made it there in just 21 minutes. The sun was going down and the ocean was beautiful.
Best steaks in town!
We got table #9 in the back under the large aquarium where they keep their freshest fish. Remember, if you want to see the fish all evening, do NOT order a #7 on the menu!
While everyone was on their way here, I played with the new iPhone. I need more time as the controls differ from my old iPhone 2! No crank, there are buttons instead of switches, and the images are in color!
We await everybody to arrive.
Ah haw! Our old friend wine has arrived. We popped the cork, and the armona of this fine wine filled the room. You can’t hardly find that in a $1.89/gallon bottle of wine anymore. We both took a whiff of the aroma! Mary was a fountain of information. All I smelled was dirty socks!
The party can now start.
When Robin arrived, we passed her a large bag; her present was challenging to wrap! What could it be? I bet it was a small water buffalo!
“What’s in the bag?”
Yes indeed!
The boys looked excited to see what it might be. Perhaps a toy train or a basketball?
Bob and Nick are enjoying all the fun!
No, it was a handmade thingamabob. Mary invented it for leisurely movie-watching. The colors are Robin’s favorite.
Wow, it’s a……
Table #9 is the large one in the back room, under the fish tank, so we had plenty of room. (This is the restaurant where we got married three years ago!) The six of us had a wonderful time sharing stories and catching up on everything.
We giggled and laughed all evening long.
Pam likes her wine and prefers red. We had some Welch’s red grape juice in the back and added some vodka; she didn’t know the difference (until she tasted it). I think the expression was “Pa-Tooey!”
Pam and Robin catch up on things!
It is because your hearing is also going!
We indeed giggled and laughed the whole evening. It was an excellent way to celebrate this great lady’s 60th birthday!
“Paul, did you really say that?”
After dinner, we headed home but stopped at Aces Bar & Grille to spread some holiday cheer. We took control of the jukebox and played Christmas music for an hour.
We went to Aces to wind down.
We arrived home at about 10:00 p.m. and crashed. Tomorrow, I have to brief three classes of potential engineers at the local high school about the wonders of Engineering.
Memories: The Train Station – I had a large American Flyer train setup in the backyard of my house. It covered an area of almost 400 square feet. My mom and I created the mountains using window screen wire and plaster of Paris. We had two trains running simultaneously.
During Christmas time, we used to celebrate at Dad’s boss’s house even though he was Jewish and his employees were not. This year, I found a big box under the tree with my name on it. Of course I opened it up and was I surprised! I was ten and of course gifts are always great My dad’s boss, Ralph David Leibowitx, was a generous and amazing man. I got my middle name from Ralph’s middle name. BTW, his daughter got her name, Paula, from my dad;s first name, Paul! They were pretty close friends.
It was a talking American Flyer S-gauge train station! It had a 4″ record that ran at 78 rpm and it announced trains departing and arriving at the station! The building also lit up
I took it home at at 10 pm I was outside in the train room assembling the gift and placing it on the train layout. I must had played the announcement 100 times that evening.
Looking back I was blessed with the most wonderful parents and amazing grown up friends.
This ought to work just fine! His deliveries will be done by the first of February!
The phone woke me up at 5:45 am this morning. As I am a little older, I am fortunate to have someone call and check on me daily. The person who called me is from India and seems to be very concerned about my car warranty.
Mary woke up at 6:00 am, and we spent the morning in the office, completing our paperwork. It was amazing; there was a wooden table beneath the paper!
After picking up Mary from the gym, we decided to go to Orange County Farm to purchase new soil mixtures and vegetables.
She was busy today
I can’t believe I forgot to go to the gym today. That’s seven years in a row now.
During our journey, we took a break at Renada’s for lunch and enjoyed the view of people and cars passing by. We were particularly impressed by a beautifully restored red vehicle.
It was quite an automobile.
The angel hair pasta and seafood looked beautiful, and I enjoyed it. Mary did the Veal Piccata, and it was also excellent.
We talked to the kids today. They said they wanted a cat for Christmas. We usually serve turkey, but, hey, if it will make them happy.
Lunch was amazing.
The soup contents were interesting.
Yummy… Creepie crawlies!
We drove down Chapman to the nursery and asked the owner what was the best amendment to add to our raised garden. We bought eight bags for one and a half of our garden planters. We will need about 24 more to complete the process.
Mary selected some veggies, and we were off and running.
We did a flyby at CVS, but the prescription was not ready.
We brought all the items to the backyard using our fleet of wheelbarrows and trucks.
Each bag was 100 pounds!
We loaded the bags onto the bricks at the top of the raised bed. Tomorrow, we will slice them open and fill the beds with 2-3 inches of soil amendment mix. Then we can plant new vegetables!
We got everything moved, and tomorrow we start!
During our visit to Candy Cane Lane, we participated in an auction and successfully bid on a basket of chocolates. We decided to give them to David, who can taste chocolate after his chemo treatments.
We drove to their place, which was about ten minutes away, and spent around thirty minutes visiting before returning home.
What do you call Chewbacca when he has chocolate stuck in his hair? Duh, a Chocolate Chip Wookiee.
Off to David and Dianne’s!
I found a pry bar at home and used it to retrieve the mail from the mailbox. When we forget to check the mailbox for a day, it fills up quickly!
I went back to the office for a couple of hours and then watched a Christmas movie.
We woke up early to ensure that everything was perfect for the arrival of Diane and Megan, Mary’s daughter-in-law and granddaughter. It’s our 27th year, and we want to make every visit unique and memorable.
Did You Know? In 1827 and 1828, the 15-year-old Dickens found work as a junior clerk at the law office of Ellis and Blackmore—but instead of brushing up on legal work to eventually become a lawyer, he voraciously studied the shorthand method of writing developed by Thomas Gurney. The skill allowed him to begin working as a reporter in the 1830s, covering Parliament and British elections for outlets like the Morning Chronicle.
Vicky beat us there!
Dru and Dr. Bill were the next to show up! This is Doctor Bill’s second time coming to join us.
Did You Know? Charles Dickens was a prodigious wordsmith.
Not to be outdone by the likes of William Shakespeare, Dickens was the other British writer known to create words and phrases of his own. Thank Dickens for words and phrases like butter-fingers, flummox, the creeps, dustbin, ugsome, slangular, and more.
We all gathered outside.
We had seats in Row K, providing a clear view of the entire stage.
In the theater, we were ready to begin!
Ah, girls will be girls! Nana Mary was happy as a clam to see her granddaughter Megan and spend time with her. Daughter-in-law Diane is also a joy to be around and fits right in!
Did You Know? A Christmas Carol was just one of several Christmas-themed stories written by Charles Dickens. The novella’s full title is A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas.
Grandma and granddaughter.
Amy, Alex, Charlie, and Joe sat beside Franklyn, Theo and Michele. We had the entire row.
Joe and family.
The play had some quirks this year, and it was enjoyable to figure them out. Even the boys noticed the differences. I noticed that Bob Cratchett dropped the coal into the bucket when caught by Scrooge instead of presenting them for inventory or dusting them off.
It was a large cast.
Many of the actors were the same as last year.
Did You Know? Like many of Dickens’ other works, A Christmas Carol was written as a work of social commentary. Dickens had a lifelong devotion to helping the underserved due to his own family’s experiences with debtors prison, which forced him to drop out of school as a boy and work at a factory. As Dickens’ biographer Michael Slater described, the author thought of A Christmas Carol as a way to “help open the hearts of the prosperous and powerful towards the poor and powerless….”
Almost as many of them as there were of us!
We gathered together for a photoshoot.
It is like rounding up cats!
We gathered together under the banner for the traditional group picture.
Quite a gaggle of humanity!
The Duda’s joined us for lunch at Darya. A fine Persian Cuisine restaurant located at South Coast Plaza Village. 714.557.6600. Repertory. Segerstrom Center for the Arts. 714.708.5555 ·
Darya has offered Orange County residents and business professionals authentic Persian gourmet dining at reasonable prices for over two decades.
It starts with an elegant and private mezzanine room. As you walk up the beautiful formal stairway, you’ll be mesmerized by the room’s beauty. Your eyes will likely first notice the gorgeously lit chandeliers that bring perfect lighting to set the mood for any occasion.
Eloquent wall-to-wall French doors open to a beautiful balcony overlooking the fine dining area and grand piano. And there is just enough natural light for that fresh, open-air, cozy feeling.
Did You Know? The word shiska-bob was first mentioned in a Turkish script of Kyssa-i Yusuf in 1377, which is the oldest known source where this food is mentioned as a food. It is considered to have originated in Turkey when soldiers used to grill chunks of freshly hunted animals skewed on swords on open-field fires.
What is a shish kebab stick called? A Skewer! A skewer is a thin metal or wood stick that holds pieces of food together. The word may sometimes be used as a metonym to refer to the food served on a skewer, as in “chicken skewers.” Skewers are used while grilling or roasting meats and fish and in other culinary applications.
The Shiskabob was outstanding.
The service was outstanding!
Dining after the show!
Mom gives Megan some pointers about the meal, like “Don’t worry too much if it moves on its own; it was well cooked”. The Persian appetizers disappear almost instantly. We had pickled tomatoes and other veggies. The Persian flatbread and butter was a big hit.
The Shiskabob was outstanding.
Diane got the shishkabob, and it was too much to eat; she will have lunch tomorrow for sure! The onions and bell peppers were done perfectly.
Amazing Persian soups!
Dessert was gone in a flash! The Persians have amazing desserts!
Berry dessert!
Hey, it was magic, we were there!
Just us lit up as usual.
It was lovely to have Mary’s family over this afternoon, and they even got to meet Robin, Bob, and Nick!
The family.
Diane picked a bag of greens for her chickens and rabbits.
The rabbit will be fed well this afternoon!
After they left, we had a conversation with Colleen, and she found it funny that her son showed up for dinner as a goat herder! Jon was the one who made it happen, and he did a great job! Just to clarify, the facial hair he was sporting was not real, but it looked very convincing!
Grandson Jon and Sarah go out to dinner.
We went to bed early that evening as it was a busy day!
“We kicked off the day at 7:00 am and got ourselves ready for a shopping spree. Mary is getting me a birthday present, which is a new iPhone. I am still using my old one, but using it in public is embarrassing as the batteries are completely dead, and I have to keep jump-starting it.”
We went to the mall and arrived early as they are not taking appointments this time of year!
I understand it has new cameras! The case can be personalized, too!
We arrived at the mall 30 minutes before the Apple Store opened, eager to be the first customers. The large decorations were in place, and the toy trains circled around. y!
The mall was all decorated for Christmas!
The staff was briefed on the plan of action for the day. Mary was very kind and considerate as she knew that the pull cord on my old iPhone was about to break, so she surprised me by gifting me a new iPhone and an iWatch. It was my birthday gift! They are both beautiful, and we even received $450 for my iPhone 12, which was in excellent condition.
The Apple Store was just about to open!
We went around the corner to MEZZET, A Mediterranean restaurant, and had lunch and a glass of wine to celebrate. Named for the vast array of Middle Eastern small plates—mezze—beloved for the fresh, vibrant flavors of Mediterranean cuisine—these tempting dishes, generous salads, savory kebobs, and more are prepared in a bustling exhibition kitchen. Guests enjoy an airy coastal vibe complemented by an engaging bar and cozy pocket patio for dining or lounging.
We ate lunch in the mall.
We returned home and took a short nap, as we will be up late this evening at the Candy Cane Lane event.
The trees to be bid on were on display. Bill and Mary Capps sponsored this delightful tree.
The Bill and Mary Capps Tree
The proceeds go to people in need. We wanted to win this one since it was all Disney. We planned to regift it to Robin, but someone else got to it before us!
Christmas Tree Lane
Mary and I saw many old friends this evening, which made me think!
We all had salmon for dinner, and it was pretty good. Iris and Will join Donna, Bob, and us this evening.
Dinner with friends.
Bob tried out the new iPhone camera.
The photo was taken at the wrong angle, but it is us!
Line dance time means Bob and I can talk!
Line dance time.
The beautiful lady is our dear friend Iris, who will celebrate #97 on New Year’s Eve!
Iris will be 97 in a couple of weeks!
We finally departed around 10 pm.
Good night, guys!
We hurried home and hit the sack, as tomorrow is another full day!
Mary and I started our day early in the morning. She headed to her gym class while I went to Los Alamitos for a blood test necessary for my next week’s appointments. We both got back home and reunited around 11 am.
Afterward, we spent the rest of the day putting up the last inside and outside decorations. However, the outdoor decorations demanded extra attention as technology can be pretty challenging when it comes to powering and waterproofing them.
We went to Home Depot and got additional extension cords and waterproofing items. We looked at the veggies and decided a quick trip to H&H was required tomorrow morning so we could plant tomorrow afternoon!
Soldier Claus keeps an eye on the house!
He was protecting the house!
Santa is quite a dancer and prancer! We hear he likes disco quite a bit.
Let’s dance.
They stand together on the right-hand side of the yard. We will put them on Amazon Alexa tomorrow to control the on-off times.
It is decorated for the holidays.
The helipad is operational on the house’s left side, and Santa and helpers are coming in for a landing.
Copter to the tower, standby; we are coming in!
Scout assisted by making sure no one got into the house while we were outside. He situated himself so he could see the front, back, and side hallways at the same time, keeping his senses heightened!
Our trusty sidekick, Scout The Wonder Dog!
Inside, we made a special area for our two newest Santas, which David and Dianne gave us. They are predominately displayed on the Kitchen Island! They are unique in that they have cassette tapes. One tells a story with sound effects while the other plays ragtime piano Christmas tunes.
Read us a story, Santa!
What would Santa be called if he went down a chimney with the fire going? Crispy Kringle.
Play it again, Santa!
Play us a tune, Santa!
They are located on either side of Mr. Tree, who shakes, rattles, and rolls anytime he hears a noise!
What did Mrs. Claus say to Santa as she looked at the sky? “Looks like rain, dear.”
A place of honor!
We watched the new Eddie Murphy Christmas movie “Candy Cane Lane.” Summary: A man makes a deal with a mischievous elf who casts a magic spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life.
We finished the evening with a Hallmark movie and then a Charles Bronson action movie. We crashed at 10:30 pm after I took Scout out for his pre-beddy-bye pee-pee!
As I did today’s Daily Diary, I thought a lot about working alongside Dr. Mary; it is a treat. We operate like a well-oiled machine, except for my creaking joints occasionally. It is enjoyable to spend all day every day with your best friend!
Tomorrow we will be working at home and may even get some veggies to plant in the winter garden. We are going to the Candy Cane Gala tomorrow night and to Sount Coast Reperatpry to see “A Christmas Carol” on Sunday with twenty friends and family; our present to them.
Mary and I spent a few hours at the office today. She was making phone calls while you were cleaning up and preparing our Christmas website for 2023. Later on, we got ready and went out to meet the gang at Elks for “Girls’ Night Out.”
The day’s problem was what to do for New Year’s Eve. We do not have a solution yet, but something will come up!
Italian cuisine is indeed something that can bring a lot of happiness and joy. From the amazing aroma of fresh herbs to the mouth-watering flavors of pasta dishes, there is something about Italian food that just makes you feel good. Whether it’s enjoying a delicious pizza with friends or savoring a hearty plate of lasagna with family, Italian cuisine has a way of bringing people together and creating wonderful memories. So, happiness can definitely start with Italian cuisine!
So we went to Franco’s Italian Restaurant before heading to the Cerritos Performing Arts Center to see Manheim. Everyone ordered, but I asked the manager to surprise me, which made him look worried.
The trouble with eating Italian food is that five or six days later, you’re hungry again.
Dinner with dear friends. Mary, yours truly, Jim, Vicky, Ed, and Betty
We had a lovely meal and laughed for an hour and a half, but I couldn’t understand why Spumoni was so amusing.
Did You Know? Spumoni is a traditional Italian dessert that’s a milk sherbet. Sherbet is not quite ice cream and not quite sorbet and has the addition of dairy — usually milk or buttermilk. This gives it a slightly creamier texture than sorbet, as well as a lighter, pastel color. By law, sherbet must contain less than 2% fat. It consists of three layers: chocolate, pistachio, and almond. In Italy, it’s often made in a terrine, hardened in the freezer, and then cut into slices about an inch thick.
Excellent food!
Chef-owner Francisco Gracia’s restaurant offers fresh, authentic, Italian and Continental cuisine. Chef Gracia has created the perfect menu blend that highlights his culinary rage and skill. Don’t be fooled by its exterior; a gem is inside Franco’s Italian Restaurant and Bakery. The delicious food, exceptional service, and family-style charm at Franco’s create a delightful dining experience.
Just us getting ready for the concert.
Off to Cerritos Performing Arts Center, where the Manheim folks made merry! Mannheim Steamroller is an American neoclassical new-age music ensemble founded and directed by percussionist/composer Chip Davis in 1974. The group is known primarily for its Fresh Aire series of albums, which blend classical music with elements of new age and rock, and for its modern recordings of Christmas music.
Wow, it was terrific.
Scout was upset he had to stay home, so I arranged for a local butler service to provide him with a relaxing night in.
Scout decided to stay home and rest!
The background was interesting. Manheim has six musicians and “borrows” local talent, making the entire group almost 16 strong.
The visuals were captivating.
2008, Chip Davis underwent surgery, preventing him from touring or performing with the band. Rather than forcing the tour to stop while he recovered, Davis hired additional musicians to replace him temporarily. He also created two different lineups of the band, nicknamed the “red” and “green” touring companies.
We had snow!!
LED backdrops make for excellent presentations
Listen to their fantastic music!
After the show, we went VFR (Visual Flight Rules) for home, where we crashed without even turning on the TV!
Yes, she is!
Posted inFriends, Just Us|Comments Off on Time To Go To The Elks & Manheim Steamroller!
Mary had an appointment at the local gym, so she contacted Liles taxi service for drop-off. Later, I added some final touches to our decorations at home. At noon, we left for the Elks Lodge to have lunch with Bob.
Remember, “The Christmas alphabet has noel.”
The Lodge Tree was beautiful.
We got a gentle reminder of all the times we will visit the Elks during Christmas.
We have our reservations made.
Everything was decorated, including Mr. Elkl!
Mr. Elks was decorated for Christmas.
Paul had a problem with a loose implant, and the dentist needed to know the model and style of the implant. Unfortunately, Paul couldn’t recall the information as it had been over a decade ago. However, he managed to remember the name of the orthodontist who had done the work, so he decided to drive to his office.
We drove to the end of the 55 freeway as I remembered where the office was located. I found it!
Three sheets of paper containing all necessary information were provided from the office’s computer records dating back to 2011.
We went to the market before heading home. After unpacking, we binge-watched Hallmark Christmas movies until 9 pm, at which time we turned the lights out.
We both had dental appointments first thing. I went first, and then Mary followed. My crown did not fit so I have to return next week. Mary’s adjustment went fine!
Finally, she can’t talk!
The dental office had little versions of dentists; Dad, Uncle, and Daghter! Too cute!
Cute!
On our way home we stopped at Rockwell’s for breakfast! It’s a local establishment and they have great food. I needed my morning coffee.
Their omelets are terrific.
We decorated and got most of everything done. Mary finally found her glasses. She loves the color!
Who is this masked person?
I was on repair duty as every year we open a triage center and get out the batteries and glue. Today it was the pyramids that needed some attention!
Dr. Paul, at your service!
Mary put together the other pyramid as it did not need an intervention!.
What is the story behind the Christmas pyramids? The name Christmas pyramid came about because the Napoleonic campaign in Egypt at the end of the 18th century brought pictures of the pyramids back to Europe and eventually to the Ore Mountains, where they reminded the people of the mining capstans and also of the Christmas constructions.
The Pyramid builder at work.
It is beginning to take shape! Every surface is covered and Scout is going crazy trying to figure out what to chew on first! Just kidding, he doesn’t chew!
The cleaning people can come tomorrow.
Major surgery is underway! Glue, tape, nails, thumbtacks…whatever it takes. Mary made me put on my nurse’s uniform (complete with the short skirt). I fooled her and put on my French maid’s costume instead; she was so busy in surgery she did not notice!
Repairs are sometimes frustrating.
We declared victory. Christmas is finally here but we did NOT do the tree yet, perhaps this weekend!
No open surfaces are available!
We changed the lights to alternating green and red! Love the Govee lighting system.
Easy to adjust from the iPhone!
We crashed after a couple of Hallmark Christmas movies!
We did some unpacking and decorating before we departed the house.
We have a lot of work ahead of us!
I found a new occupation: furniture delivery. Read on…
Mary had a gym appointment, and I met with Sydney’s customer, who was selling her high-end Ethan Allen furniture. Removing the seats from the van helped, but all I could get was a dining room table and four chairs. Packing them into the van, I departed for Los Alamitos and dropped them at Vicky’s new home.
When I returned home, Mary was done with her appointment. Mary then had an appointment with a doctor in Newport Beach, so I decided to see if I could pick up the other furniture Vicky wanted. Indeed, we could, so we stopped, got the remaining items, and took the second trip to Los Alamitos.
We also looked at a piece of furniture that Sydney thought we might want!
It was a bit too big!
We zoomed to Los Alamitos and delivered the second group. It was so late we decided to ask Vicky to join us at The Fish Company.
Oysters anyone?
After a bit, the phone rang, and Sydney joined us for dinner!
Hal and Sydney joined us.
We had a marvelous dinner!
The sliders were wonderful.
We enjoy any time we have together.
Fun Fun Fun
We drove home in the dark, with a full moon and light traffic.
Full Moon.
We finally got home and crashed! We seemed to have driven all day long.
We woke early to put away Thanksgiving and Halloween decorations we missed before Joe’s 8:00 a.m. arrival. Joe and the boys offered to take the Christmas boxes down from the garage attic for us, an amazing gesture.
After ten minutes of Joe and the boys being here, the guys had cleared the attic of Christmas decorations and had them ready to be unpacked in the family room, dining room, and living room.
The boxes kept on coming.
Joe, Charlie, and Alex kept bringing boxes in from the garage, and it felt like it would never end! The yellow/brown ones were from my old house, and the green/red ones were from Mary’s place.
It’s been three years since we started unpacking/packing our individual boxes and putting them together! Now, it’s hard to tell which decorations were whose. Mary is such an amazing woman. We have several decorations that we bought independently of each other ten years ago or more that are IDENTICAL.
Lift that bale; tow that barge! Charlie is at work!
Our son supervised the activity with assistance from Scout. However, we made sure not to get in his way. Joe knows our home just like his own. And the grandsons make moving these boxes look like child play! If we did that, we would need an oxygen bottle!
Joe will outgrow my lap but never my heart. Sometimes, when I need a miracle, I look into my son’s eyes and realize I’ve already created one.
It is challenging to get older and not be able to do the things your body once could. My mind says forty; my body says eighty! Feeling useless is not a great emotion to experience.
Or, as Mary often says:
He is off to the garage for another load!
We stacked the family room full.
The living room (TV Room) is filling up with boxes. This will be the last room we decorate as we must pull out the TV equipment cabinet to get to the electrical outlets.
The living room got the next load of boxes.
Finally, everyone sat down. Mary baked some blueberry muffins for the guys, and they quickly devoured them; we barely had enough left to take to Amy!
Time to rest!
Joe left for home to attend to some chores. It’s fantastic to have a loving son and grandkids who are always willing to drop their activities and come to our aid. Although Mary and I could have done the work ourselves, it would have taken us four days, but they finished in just 45 minutes!
I started decorating by placing the little lady in her honored spot. Scout, The Wonder Dog, led me to the room.
Time to decorate!
Scout likes to decorate because he lies down and watches us do all the work!
The chief decorator provides adult supervision!
Supervising is a lot of work and requires frequent naps! Notice his position at the intersection of the hallways so that we have to step over him!
At 2:00 p.m., we stopped and got cleaned up so we could be at the Brea Civic Center at 3:30 p.m. for the performance of the Alley Cats.
Did You Know? The Alley Cats are an American doo-wop group singing in a cappella. The group originated in 1987 when a concert choir program had a variety night at Fullerton College. When John Tebay, the choir director, suggested that Andre Peek (1st tenor and lead vocalist at that time) and Armando Fonseca (2nd tenor) perform together, both of them decided to take Mr. Tebay’s advice and form a quartet, an a cappella group.
Two additional members along the way, Royce Reynolds (bass) and Todd Dixon (baritone) got together, and the foursome gained notice. Since then, The Alley Cats have performed for many audiences, ranging from elementary school fun nights to being Grand prize winners on the Gong Show.
Performing on the Arsenio Hall show to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as well as opening for Leno at his Las Vegas shows. The sound of the Alley Cats has also been heard at The White House. The Alley Cats appeared in the Richard Simmons workout video Dance Your Pants Off!
I have followed them since their inception in 1987 and started attending their events in 1988. The first time was at the OC Fair.
To the theater in Brea!
Get ready for a fun-filled experience! This group is known for their ability to make the audience laugh uncontrollably. During this year’s performance, we had the opportunity to sing along with them as they had lyrics for several Christmas songs.
Additionally, they included a number between one and twelve in everyone’s program, which involved singing “The Twelve Days Of Christmas.” Mary drew the number eight, so she had to sing “Nine Ladies Dancing.” It was an event that brought joy to everyone involved! They knew I was coming, so I drew the number 187!
Did You Know? The 12 days of Christmas is the period in Christian theology that marks the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of the Magi, the three wise men. It begins on December 25 (Christmas) and runs through January 6 (the Epiphany, sometimes also called Three Kings’ Day). The four weeks preceding Christmas are collectively known as Advent, which begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on December 24.
The Alley Cats open the Christmas season for us!
After the fantastic performance, we went to the Cedar Creek Inn in Brea. Amazing food. All ten of us went: Jim, Vicky, Irene, Brenda, Carol, Gerald, Bob, Donna, and us.
We had a wonderful time with family and friends. Irene sat across from me, and I did not get her in the snapshot.
Family is a beautiful thing!
We enjoy each other’s company so much we can’t help but smile!
Dinner at the Cedar Creek Inn!
Vicky and Jim were also enjoying the evening.
Vicky and Jim
We left dinner at 8:00 p.m. and decorated before crashing at 10:00 p.m. after a long week.
Family is a beautiful thing!
After a long week, we left dinner at 8:00 p.m. arriving home 20 minutes later. Mary folded the last of the vacation clothes while I caught up on this Daily Diary!
We went to bed at 10:00 p.m. while watching a movie called NYAD. Annette Bening, Jodie Foster, and Rhys Ifans star in NYAD to tell a remarkable true story of athlete Diana Nyad who, at the age of 60 and with the help of her best friend and coach, commits to achieving her life-long dream: a 110-mile open ocean swim from Cuba to Florida.
