Happy Birthday, Amy! Our daughter-in-law is an absolute sweetheart, and we love her to death. How she puts up with Joe, we do not understand. See the following Facebook message from Amy’s sister-in-law, Colleen:
I went to Home Depot at 8:00 AM to get two additional roses because Carlos, our gardener, is coming to trim the roses, and he will plant the new ones for us. He got to our house just before I arrived and was already working hard. He had two helpers today, so the trimming, planting, and other yard duties went pretty fast.
Around 10:00 AM, Mary and I hit the backyard and did additional cleanup, plus I got the rain cover, finally, on Mary’s garden workstation and sink. Now we can have tools and other necessary items on the workstation plus protect the wood from the elements.
We worked until it was almost dark and then had dinner with the salad from our garden. The star of the salad was our Daikon radishes. Mary noted, “One of the issues with making salad is bland lettuce, and it’s a problem that needs addressing.”
I did tell Mary that I made a chicken salad once. This stupid thing won’t eat it.
Daikon, sometimes called winter radish, is a root vegetable that is long and tubular. Daikon radishes have a crispy texture and are mild in flavor with a slightly peppery bite. They are commonly white with leafy green tops, but they also come in various colors and shapes.
Raw daikon radish has a sweet and lightly spicy flavor and tends to be milder than a peppery red radish. The spice level can depend on the variety of white radishes, with some having a more robust flavor. The flesh is very crunchy and juicy.
We cleaned up the patio and then went inside.
We finished the massive piece of beef from Rondaliers dance last night, along with a beautiful salad. This garden is going to be fun for us.
We went to Jan’s for a short visit before returning home. By 8:30 PM, we were in bed. Mary wanted to watch a movie, but she lasted about five minutes before sawing logs. It was a productive day.
