We got up late after last night’s adventures! We walked the garden, and it looked great; the tomatoes are doing well. they almost doubled in size since they went into the ground.
Mary and I watch gardening clips on YouTube every morning.
She is learning fresh, and I am re-learning what I had forgotten. Today was trellising, and afterward, I went to Amazon and procured enough for our garden plus! I wanted 4″ by 4″, but the 2″ by 4″ will do because Dr. Mary has small hands!
To keep the mesh vertical, we got 7′ steel t-bars which will last for a hundred years!
Mary fixed coffee this morning as we were both trying to wake up. I am using decaf and putting a little milk in the coffee to cool it down. I enjoy our morning coffee, where we discuss the day, make plans, and then do whatever we need to do!
We are off to “Girls’ Night Out,” and the sun is out; we will not know how to drive in these conditions! I haven’t worn sunglasses in quite a while!
Upon arrival, we were treated to a mini-fashion show with Bob C showing off the latest in forty-year-old Harley Davison shirts. He mentioned wearing undies to match, but we convinced him that seeing the shirt was enough.
The shirt was lovely and had the Harley-Davidson logo on the back. Bob C. got it at a motorcycle rally many moons ago.
We departed the elks and stopped by Jan’s, via Waba, on the way home.
After arriving home, we worked in the garden for almost three hours. Mary worked in the south forty, cleaning up previous trimmings. I worked in the north forty, specifically the left-hand herb garden. I added a bag of manure, two bags of compost, a half-bale of peat moss, and a quarter bag of chicken manure. The soil is now officially amended!
Someone has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens.
The term “wheelbarrow” is made of two words: “wheel” and “barrow.” “Barrow” is a derivation of the Old English “barew” which was a device used for carrying loads. Having two wheelbarrows is perfect. Mine carries the heavy loads while Mary’s can be brought up right to the edge of the garden within reaching distance.
After a good two hours on my hand and knees, the garden looked great. I even cleaned up the drip lines so they were out of the way from future plantings. I did some transplanting lining up our existing herbs; tomorrow, we will get more herbs and fertilizer for the right-hand garden!
While we were working, Carlos came by with friends, and they dug a trench from the left-hand side of the house to the street and drilled holes in the foundation of the wall and the curb so we a drop in a 4″ drain pipe to avoid water buildup on that side of the house. He plans to put a drain directly under the downspout. No more water standing after a rain; everything goes to the street!
Tomorrow and Saturday morning, he plans to add additional draining to the backyard flower garden near the master bedroom. No more water buildup!
Our flowers were beautiful this afternoon; they enjoyed the sun! Hibiscus is considered a very feminine flower and is usually given or worn by women. In North America especially, a hibiscus means a perfect wife or woman. I must remember to give one to Mary every day!
Did you hear about one flower who went on a date with another? It’s a budding romance.
It was cold, so we went inside at 6:30 pm. Mary took our neighbor some beef stew. We had a wonderful candlelight dinner while watching two more Tom Selleck movies. By 9:00 pm, we were off to bed; today has been fantastic!
