Why do trees have so many friends? They branch out.
Today’s schedule looks very busy! It called for planting in Orange, PT in Santa Ana, planting in Rossmoor, and dinner/TV in Rossmoor.
We got together early, after Mary’s Tuesday Zoom meeting, and did some planting in Mary’s backyard. It’s almost Spring, so that means tomatoes! A world without tomatoes is like a string quartet without violins. She picked a nice variety from Roger’s, and in 70+ days, we will be picking from the plants. I think she had a smiley salad in mind?
Into the garden we went, shovels in hand. We sang, “Whistle While You Work” while we marched from the garage to the back fence. Scout found that quite amusing. We planted five tomatoes at Mary’s, and then we planted some peppers, mint plants, and onions! Yummy!
The new tomatoes had quite interesting names, need I say more? Obviously, it was a new wrinkle for us!
After planting a mess of stuff at Mary’s, we cleaned up and went to the Original Pancake House to pick up breakfast and went to Jan’s to surprise her. We love to visit Jan and just sit and talk about “stuff.” We told Jan, you don’t have to be crazy to be our friend. We will train you.
The meal was excellent, and we told some stories. I asked Jan, “Why did the chicken sit on an ax? She wanted to hatchet.” I got a big BOOO!
Speaking of stories, I captured Miss Mary relating stories to us. They were funny and heart-rendering. Please enjoy.
The OPH meals are large, so two entrees satisfy all three of us with some leftover for Jan to nibble on all day! We stayed for almost an hour before going to Mary’s and picking up Scout, The Wonder Dog. The sun was just right, and the front yard was looking great!
Now we are off to Mary’s physical therapist in Santa Ana. While Mary was inside, Scout and I listened to the last part of Nelson Demille’s “Deserter” on audiotape. I am always afraid Scout will give the story away since he read it with his mommy first!
Exercises are done, and now we head to my place for real work; we have a dozen tomatoes to plant plus mulching and minor fertilizing; I perfected his garden flower beds through a process of trowel and error.
We had thirteen tomatoes, and I think we got them all planted before the Sun totally went down.
Scout was a big help when he was not looking for squirrels.
The rest of the garden is doing fine; we have peas, cabbage, lettuce, beans, Swiss chard, and other goodies.
Scout did help!
Mary picked the cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day next week. We put them in Green Bags and then in the outside refrigerator.
Hey, I tried to smile! Best I could rustle up.
We talked to Zachary and his family for almost an hour. He did get the new TV installed next door for Del and Vicky! Yeah!
We had a small dinner, courtesy of Dr. Mary. I checked myself later on in the evening, and I am back to 196. Eating small portions is a good idea. As I told Mary, “Diets are for those who are thick and tired of it.”
