Sinko Day My-Oh; Corona (Beer) For All!

“Grief is not as heavy as guilt, but it takes more away from you.” – Veronica Roth

Sue would always tell me, “Don’t say it that way!”  I would say, “What way?”  She would say in return, “Don’t say we go to the adult movies, just say we adults go to the movies“.  What is this all about?  Well for several years James & Linda, Vicky & Del, Ed & Kathy, and Sue and me would go see the latest G/PG rated movies and hoot and holler like kids.  We just enjoyed ourselves.   Below we are just finishing dinner before we go to the $2.00 a movie theater on Valley View to see “Shrek”.  It was a load of fun.  She enjoyed our friends and sharing wonderful moments together. Seeing her enjoy other people just made me feel so good.  I miss those times we had together.

Adults At The Movies 2011

Today went so fast that I did not even take but a few pictures!

So the first event was the electrician who came to visit again! I was going to have the box replaced last year but with Sue not feeling well, I did not want to disrupt her so I replayed. Now, it is the time! I reviewed the layout and made my needs known. He may start next week and then I will be ready for solar power later this summer.  Nye bye Zinsco, hello modern technology plus I am adding power monitoring and WiFi connected pool pump/lighting.

It is NOT spaghetti…It is the result of 30 years worth of additions!

As soon as the electrician departed, I headed for the market to make sure I had supplies for movie night.  Robin is coming over about 1:30 PM and then Marianne and Craig about 4:30 PM.  We are going to dine on Mexican delights and then watch “True Grit”.

Well, I a) got hungry a little early, and b) I needed room in the frig so, me and this beautiful steak had a meeting of the minds. When I added a spinach salad to the mix, we had a delightful meal.  Now I am ready for the afternoon.

I needed room in the frig.

Robin came early so we could walk but the weather got the better of us, we drank instead!  Robin now has a certificate in “rim salting” using limes and strawberries!  I on the other hand barely passed the ice cube and margarita mix blending merit badge test.  The results were excellent so who cares about the merit badge?

One for Paul?  Dang!

Marianne and Craig were right on time and we got so busy eating and visiting, I didn’t even pick up the camera!

After dinner, we headed for the big screen and found True Grit.  True Grit is a 1969 American Western film directed by Henry Hathaway and starring Kim Darby as Mattie Ross and John Wayne as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn. It is the first film adaptation of Charles Portis’ 1968 novel of the same name. The screenplay was written by Marguerite Roberts. Wayne won his only Oscar for his performance in the film and reprised his role for the 1975 sequel Rooster Cogburn.

Did You Know?

  • The film’s release date of Wednesday, June 11, 1969, was ten years to the day before John Wayne died, Monday, June 11, 1979.
  • With this film, John Wayne became the first person to produce and direct a Best Picture Oscar nominee (The Alamo (1960)), and then go on and win Best Actor for his role in another film.
  • Rooster called Mattie’s revolver a “horse pistol”. It was called that because that type of revolver was carried in a that which was attached to the horn of the saddle on the horse. It was too heavy to be carried on a person’s belt.
  • The meadow in the final shootout is known locally as Debbie Reynolds Meadow. It was a filming location for The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964).
  • Historians believe Cogburn was based on Deputy U.S. Marshal Heck Thomas, who brought in some of the toughest outlaws. The cast also features Glen Campbell, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper, Jeff Corey, and Strother Martin. The title song, sung by Campbell, was also Oscar-nominated.

Mairanne and Craig departed after the movie and Robin and I sat up another two hours and watched

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
