The Adventure Begins!

What’s worse than raining cats and dogs? Hailing Taxis!

We are off and heading to San Jose, eight hours ahead on good ol’ 101! We drove through Malibu before connecting with 101 at Oxnard.

Did You Know? Malibu is named for the Ventureño Chumash settlement of Humaliwo, which translates to “The Surf Sounds Loudly.” This pre-colonial village was situated next to Malibu Lagoon and is now part of the State Park.

The Chumash tribe spoke in a Salinan-Seri dialect of the Hokan language family. The word ‘Chumash’ means “bead maker” or “seashell people”. They were described by the Spanish as ”of good disposition, affable, liberal, and friendly”.

We ran into some fog hanging on the shoreline and it caused us to slow down a bit…that was fine as we got to see more…

The fog was quite thick!

We stopped at Buellton at Split Pea Andersen’s …a place we have been stopping for 30 years! I can remember my family stopping there in the 195o’s so it has been 60+ years for me! It’s always been the same as I recall.

Great food and amazing atmosphere!
Simply good food….and vegetarian!!

We drove until about 5:00 PM arriving in Saratoga to visit Diane and Pat. Lisa and Patrick joined us (Patrick is the new boy friend…and a really great guy!) We got some Italian takeout and returned home and gabbed for several hours before crashing!

Tomorrow we are off to Stockton…to tell Aunt Kaye we are moving her to an assisted care facility…tough conversation…bit it has to be done!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
