May 1st And It Is Cold

Where is the year going!

We are getting a visitor today!  Colleen is flying in to see her Grandmother (Paul’s ex mother-in-law).  She is turning 95 and in failing health so Paul suggested Colleen come now and visit her while she remains lucid.  We sent our friend, Teri Ward, to LAX as she is a Lyft driver and knows LAX well! Colleen arrived about noon and we went to lunch at CPK catching up on the family matters.  We gave Colleen our Avalon to use while she is in town to save her some money!

It was cold…even a little drizzle in the air.  But fear not, Paul the intrepid is headed out to do battle with the Sears delivery while awaiting Colleen’s arrival!    A new roll around tool box, yeah!  We purchased a $15 add on,  guaranteeing the delivery before 10:00 AM and it worked!

Another item for the shop!

Lunch was great and we sent Colleen on her merry way to visit Juanita who is in the hospital in Temecula.  We got a selfie back in a few hours!  We keep “loose contact” with Juanita via waves and occasional fly-byes with the grand kids and frankly she is looking pretty good for 95 years on this planet.  We are proud of Joe and Colleen for spending time with her during this period of illness.

After lunch, Sue rested and Paul hit the ranch trimming some branches, doing some watering, and other chores.  The plum trees are doing well now although we thought we had lost another tree since it is blooming so late in the season…alas, “Global Warming” strikes again, ha ha!

Load of blossoms and that means loads of fruit!

The apple tree is loaded although the fruit is not very big and we have to find out why!  We guess that we have to prune the tree heavier and also get rid of the small apples by thumping them off their branches!  Another month and we will know!

Random Memories: I do not know why but as I work in the garden my mind wonders and all of a sudden I remembered an incident that occurred in 1972 or 1973 in Downey at Rockwell.  I was a Project Engineer on Shuttle Program and the organization was growing like topsy!

They just brought in three executives from Autonetics Division and I was on my way to tell them how the cow eats the cabbage in Downey!  The secretary of one of the guys was a really good looking blonde, duh!

She seemed nice enough.  I introduced myself and was led into the guys office where we did our thing…not necessarily pleasant as I remember.

On the way out, I stopped to talk to her about another appointment and asked her the date.  She said, without missing a beat, “Hurray Hurray, it’s the first of May… Outdoor fu__ing starts today”.

I was SHOCKED as I had never heard a girl talk that way and certainly not in a place of business!  I scampered off and committed that phrase to my memory and often recall that incident…the first of May!  Was I harassed? Geeze, I do not know!

The apple tree is also no slouch!

Paul worked in the garden until about 6:00 PM and then came in to watch some TV!  We feel like farmers sometimes as there is ALWAYS something to do!

We watched two Hallmark movies and then crashed!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
