We Are On Our Way To The Avalon Ball

Say what? Yes, we are on our way to Santa Catalina Island for our 14th annual Avalon Art Deco Ball. We departed home about 8:45 am arriving at the terminal in Long Beach at 9:30 am… Right on time for a 10:30 am departure on the Catalina Express. We had twenty-six other couples going with us so we partied all the way over.

Upon arrival, our dear friends took our bags and Sue and Paul took a taxi to the hotel! Hans headed the annual “Von’s Run” as Bob Zaitz was coming a little later and Paul was not up to a “Von’s Run”.

Check out the Avalon Art Deco Ball site for details!

We took it very easy today making sure we did not overdo it.  We went to Maggie’s Blue Rose which is downstairs from Steve’s Steakhouse.  We ran into the Slaters, Berg’s and Robert’s.  good food and good times.

After lunch we went around the corner to Vons Express and got some champagne and white wine for later on that day.

Everyone collected on the patio until 5:30 at which time we headed to the Bluewater Grille!

At 5:15, we headed across the street to go to the Bluewater Grille for dinner.  They had no problem handling us as we made arrangements for forty people much earlier!  John Thomas and Chris joined us for dinner and that was a nice surprise.

Right on the water…

We went back to our room while everyone else kept themselves busy around Avalon. We went to the Ristorente Villa Portofino around 9:30 for a nightcap and to confirm our reservations for Saturday night. Time to crash!  It was sixteen steps and about 15 feet from out bedroom to the table!  We visited with Russ, the owner of the establishment and confirmed Saturday’s visit for our group of forty.

Time to crash!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
