Here We Go Again!

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

I’m going to get in trouble over this image!!

5:45 am and my eyes slapped open wider than a quarter; it was time to get up or lie there and study the ceiling!   I went to the office and worked on the picture from Sunday night’s dance at the Elks, plus putting together a year’s summary of our garden for 2026 (so far).

Mama Mary arose from the bedroom around 7:00 am and brought me a cup of coffee!  We planned out the day and began executing the plan in earnest!  First, we got ready to travel as I had an appointment with the urologist to validate that the cancer is still gone, and by golly, the PSA test revealed a 0.02% level, meaning no cancer.

From there, we made a tactical burger run to In-N-Out because Mary had exactly 45 minutes to transform from “hungry person” into “first-day-of-summer-session-watercolor-class student.” I dropped her off—properly fueled and ready to paint something tasteful—then came home to putter around like a retired sea captain with no ship and several tiny chores.

I drove back to the seniors center and picked up Mary and her new work of art.

Alas, our air conditioning system has given up the ghost. A few years ago, I would’ve marched out to the outside unit, removed a few panels, confidently blamed the starting capacitor, and either fixed it or created a much more expensive problem.

But it was 92 degrees outside, and this old body has apparently renegotiated its contract. These days, it prefers shade, iced tea, and not wrestling electrical components in the blazing sun.

So we called Sydney the Magnificent, and a technician is expected tomorrow morning—hopefully arriving with tools, wisdom, and the power to restore civilization to our home.

Meanwhile, we watched the movie Battleship and prepared food for our wayward cat who escaped a week ago.  Battleship (2012) flopped at the box office because of an excessive $220 million production budget, negative critical reviews, and fierce competition from The Avengers.  Additionally, audiences struggled to connect the abstract board game to a sci-fi alien invasion, and the film suffered from a lack of proven, bankable stars.

Halfway through the movie, we went to the pool and floated around until the moon came out and all the garden lights were on, making the pool/patio a romantic setting.

We returned to the movie, but Mary was so relaxed after the 90-minute swim in the warm water that she crashed on the couch.  I headed to the office to work on the daily diary, and when  I was done, I found Mary snuggled in the covers.  The whole-house fan was on high,h and we were getting the 71-degree outside air all over the house.

Good night all!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend.
