Partee Til’ Dawn!

Fact: It was the night of September 15, 1787, and George Washington had many reasons to celebrate. Washington’s friends in the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, along with several other framers of the Constitution, decided to throw a celebration at the City Tavern in Philadelphia.

Our party was a bit smaller in scope!  We had Robin and Colleen, Bob and Donna, and David and Dianne.  Almost the same as last year!  A tradition is born! (You can see the party here!)

We worked all day making four, yes, four kinds of corned beef.  We began work at 8:00 AM and didn’t stop until 5:00 PM!

By 11 o’clock, we had the slow cooker going, and we were getting ready for the Dutch oven to be placed in the preheated oven.  We rolled the television into the kitchen to watch a couple of movies while the cooking was going on.  We watched “The Adam project” first at Colleen’s recommendation; excellent recommendation!  After that, we watched a cute movie entitled “Just Like Heaven.”

The girls are going out; Colleen to the Elks for a pre-initiation meeting and Robin to the hairdresser!     Nick and Colleen went to the Lodge and got prepared for the initiation ceremonies which are on Tuesday evening.  I told Robin just before she left, “Just after a friend went bald, he inherited a comb.  He said he will never part with it.”

By 5:30 PM, everything was ready to go, including labels on the cutting boards, so everybody knew which preparation method was used on their corned beef.

Everybody tried all four kinds for the most part, and we surveyed the meal this evening.  The label maker that we have in the office turned out to be very useful this evening.  We had a lot of fun sampling the various cooking methods.

Donna gets the tour!

The beef is out and “resting.”  The cabbage was perfect, and the potatoes and carrots were just like the pictures in the recipes!  Dang, we love it when a place works out!

We moved into the formal dining room and began dinner.  I offered a wee prayer, “May your troubles be as few and as far apart as my grandmother’s teeth.”

The fireplace does an excellent job of taking the chill out of the air.
