The Guys Returned At 8:00 AM

Fact: Electric eels can produce strong electric shocks of around 500 volts for both self-defense and hunting.

Minding my own business at 8:00 AM, the doorbell rang.  Say what?  Our head electrician lives in Fountain Valley and was supposed to be here at 9:00 AM.  He usually works in Long Beach and had no idea there was no traffic in the morning going east on the 22-Freeway; I startled him when I opened the door wearing my sequined baby-doll jammies!

Before I let him in the house, I checked him over.   I never trust an electrician with no eyebrows.  Eddie responded, “People are usually shocked when they find out I’m not a very good electrician.”

“Oops!”

Being her sweet self, Mary asked the guys if they would like some muffins, and they decided they would keep the power on the house as long as the muffins were being prepared.  The muffins disappeared in a flash, and as soon as that happened, we were left in the dark.

We decided to go to the original pancake House on Chapman for breakfast, where we enjoyed a delightful meal.  What was more enjoyable was that when we tried to pay the bill, someone dining there had apparently taken care of it.  The three of us looked around to see who it might be; we didn’t recognize anybody.  Perhaps it was because I was wearing one of my patriotic shirts; I think we will never know.

Our screen door guy called and said he would be by at 10:   AM.  He came and installed the twelve-foot wide screen open the patio door!  Now we can leave the door open and get a fantastic cross breeze.

Eddie did the prep work outside on the power box for the other three guys finished some inside work, including the new porch light and two or three more outlet boxes.

I told Eddie, “I finally managed to get rid of that nasty electrical charge I’ve been carrying.  I’m ex-static!”

The old box was ancient and had wires every place.

The proper tools make almost any job relatively straightforward.

The guys had the tools ready, and they were prepared to go.

Eddie called for help after lunch, and with one guy in the attic and four on the box, everything connected in two hours.

All four of them were working on the box simultaneously to make sure we could power up the house by 4:00 PM.

The wiring into the new box is very well organized, and by Tuesday, every circuit will be labeled, so we will know which breaker turns off what part of the house; that is a drastic improvement.

The new box looks great, and it has room for at least six or eight more circuits.

The girls went to a craft fair in the afternoon while I fiddled around the house, changing some switches to dimmers.  Power was on by the time they got home, and the guys were gone.  They said get ready, dad, we’re doing a flyby, and we will pick you up for dinner.  We went to Aces Bar and Grille on Chapman and had a lovely dinner, albeit a little noisy.

We saw a termite walk in and asked, “Where is the bar tender?”

After the girls got home from your shopping spree, we went to oasis bar and Grille.

We were full, and the jukebox was still playing our music as we departed.  The picture below was taken by a patron who saw us trying to take a picture of ourselves in a mirror; how nice.

Pretty good

It’s still early, so we decided to visit Jan. She likes having company, and she likes our daughters Robin and Colleen.

We popped over to Janss for a quick visit.

We headed home after about an hour of visiting, and everybody crashed.  Robin had to go back home to Covina, but we will see her tomorrow at the St. Patrick’s Day dinner party.

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
