D-Day (D for Dance)!

Dance like no one is looking!

We were up early and doing last-minute panic things like checking the wiring, lining up the soft drinks, and going to the store for fire extinguishers!  If you want a peek ahead of time, look here, Mary & Paul’s Dancing Under The Stars.

My son came over and assisted with the lighting and pumps in the pool.  In the afternoon, my grandsons entered the scene, providing the much-needed muscle.  The girls flitted about making sure everything was perfect!

The day begins!

Dusk has arrived, and the dancers will be showing up early; they always do! We hope Donna and Bob are first so they can test the floor!

The sun begins to set, and guests will be arriving soon.

7:00 PM sharp, the orchestra fires up, and the brass sounds so very good!  The attendees are amazed at how dance music is so easy to listen to, and the horns add so much depth to the sound!

Nine Carat Gold sets up for the music!

Eighty people joined us this evening.  You can see the details on our website at Mary & Paul’s Dancing Under The Stars.

We heard out favorite start-up and raced to join the fun.  “Could I Have This Dance” by Anne Murry, circa 1980, is our favorite waltz!

We danced to “Could I Have This Dance (For The Rest Of Our Life).”

The video below is courtesy of YouTube, which happened to have the original recording of the song.

We had over eighty people join us tonight for the shindig.  Chuck Armstrong and his staff did a superb job of serving the hors-deouvers to the crowd.  The bar was busy all night, and many new friendships were formed!  The weather was remarkable; it was eighty degrees at 7:00 PM and stayed in the 70s past 10:30 PM!

Eighty plus family and friends joined the fun.

My girls got together for a quick shoot: two granddaughters and two daughters.  We were missing Michele, but she was out dancing with her husband.  The girls have taken to Dr. Mary, but was is not to love?

Rebecca (Granddaughter), Robin (Daughter, Mary, Kerrick (Granddaughter), and Colleen (Daughter)

Our daughters introduced us one more time, and Bob and Donna gave us a champagne toast!

Donna married us eight weeks ago (She and Bob have been our friends for many years!)

We cut the cake, and Mary did the honors with a surgical skill; duh!

Champagne toast always needs a small cake.

Mr. Scout was in his tuxedo this evening, and the little bugger went table to table introducing himself; it was amazing to watch!

Long-time friends Sam and Brenda meet Scout and Scout was happy to meet them!

Did we say dancers dance?  Bob, Vicky, Mike, and Linda in the first row do the Ten Step Polka.  Mike, Bridgette, and of course, Dr. Mary are right behind them!  All had great fun.

We then did the Cowboy ChaCha, and a lot of our non-dancing friends are all of a sudden interested in dancing!

The ten-step polka gets underway!

The evening was winding down, and papa found a seat and was soon surrounded by granddaughters.

A bevy of beauties surrounded me!

The place had cleared out by 10:30 PM, and we got a chance to relax.  Our catering staff, led by Dr. Armstrong, took care of everything, including washing all the dishes and making everything spotless!  It was a lovely evening.

A special thank you to Colleen, Robin, Bob (son-in-law), and Joe (son) for their help in making the evening a wild success.  We missed Pete and Lisa and of course Sydney, Jan, Marilyn, and Greg but we will do this again!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
