Sunday, A Day Of Rest…. NOT!!

Although I understand that all days are equal with 24 hours each, most of us agree that Friday is the longest day of the week and Sunday the shortest!

We popped up bright and early and hit the patio with a full cup of coffee, ready to take on the day!  Well, we looked at the calendar and were ready to go back to bed!  We worked a bit around the house and then got ready for the first part of the day; Bernie’s 100th.  A dear friend and amazing dancer, we had to celebrate with him.  Luckily the party was in Long Beach between 1:00 PM AND 3:00 PM.

When we arrived, Bernie was dancing with his lady friend, Donnis; the crowd was applauding.  We met up with eight couples we knew, and only one of them knew we tied the knot.  They were very happy for us.

The man is a machine!!!

The band was terrific and played a little bit of everything!

Going strong all afternoon!

We visited with Irene and Vicky, who were in attendance. After the party, we picked up a large box of pictures from Vicky.  The new owners of my old house found them in the attic.  Colleen is going to go through them tomorrow and divvy them out to the family.  My memories are in my head and will always be there and in better color!

We headed home just in time to go to the next birthday party for Mary Capps, turning 80.  I thought it was informal; after all, it was at the Elks; well, upon arriving, Colleen and Mary were in perfect attire, and I was in a Hawaiian shirt with the guys all wearing suits.   I took off like a scalded cat, racing home to change.  I went, changed, and returned in 40 minutes flat!

Mary and Bill opened the dance activities with a waltz.  We held back, but it took a lot of self-control!

Sorry Mark, but Colleen has an all-male fan club out here on the coast.  The fans are admittedly a bit out of date, but they enjoy her company and were alternating giving her dance lessons.

I love dancing with Dr. Mary because she can follow my leads, no matter where they go!  Our first dance was in 2004 at the Starlighter’s Dance Club!  We saw the invitation!

We danced and danced until we could not dance anymore!

I no longer have birthday parties. It’s embarrassing! The last party was a combination birthday party and an antique auction!  Three people bid on me!

I had the first bite of the birthday cake and said, “Doctor Mary, I get heartburn every time I eat birthday cake.”  Doctor Mary replied, “Next time, take off the candles.”

Lookin’ good!

Colleen had a great time dancing with the guys, including little ol’ me.  Since Colleen was driving, we had one more glass of wine than normal, so we could crash when we got home.  It was a great evening!

About Paul

Just an old retired guy trying to finish out my last years on this planet. I lost my best friend and wife in early 2020. I was blessed again by reconnecting with Dr. Mary Côté, a long-time friend. Mary and I got married July 28th, 2021, and are enjoying life together and plan to spend the rest of our lives being a blessing to our friends and family.
