Today Was Not An Easy Day

Friendship transcends death. Memories made will never be forgotten and created a lasting impression on those they left behind. Everyone became a better person for having such a wonderful friend.

It was a year ago today that we lost Kathy Roberts, a dear friend. We met her and Ed many years ago at a dance class and became super friends.  Her loss was expected, but when the Lord took her away, it was a shock.  Be strong Ed, that’s what dear our Kathy would want.  Visit them if you like at their site in lilesnet.com.

I met Mary at her house, and we returned to my house with Scout, The Wonder Dog, so that we could have lunch with Robin at Hof’s Hut.

But first, we made a quick trip to Chez Zaitz to deliver their anniversary present, which Mary cleverly found on-line.

Wonderful friends and a cute couple!

The cups were adorable; Mary is a good finder.

Happy 42nd Anniversary!

They had a present for us, which we were NOT expecting.  I guess they liked the weekend in Temecula!  Mary opened the box, and it was a whole collection of food items. We will enjoy them a lot.

We will explore the contents this evening!

Bob and Donna always come up with a surprise!  Side by side or miles apart, real friends are still close to the heart.

Lunch was excellent with Mary, and I split a veggie breakfast followed up by spicy chicken wings, a meal fit for a king! I mentioned to Mary that you should avoid fruit and nuts; you are what you eat.

Robin was doing just fine, and we shared all the latest with the family. Robin told me she had a surprise for me at home and I was to look in the living room. Well, I was surprised as she and Bob took a picture of my dad and framed it. I just about lost it because I had wanted to frame it for years and never quite got to it. Amazing; thank you, Robin and Bob!

I was so ugly growing up – my father carried around a picture of the kid who came with his wallet.

After breakfast, we went to my house, and Mary water the plants, I watered the garden, and we paid some bills.  Mary got another twenty pieces of the puzzle installed. We picked purple cauliflower from the garden, so dinner will be cauliflower and cheese with a purple twist.

Purple cauliflower gets its color from anthocyanin, a naturally occurring phytochemical that is also found in other red, blue, or purple fruits and vegetables, as well as red wine. … Colored cauliflower can be eaten raw, roasted, grilled, sautéed, or steamed

Definitely purple!!

The garden is growing well.  The peas and onions are coming on strong. A friend dug a hole in the garden and filled it with water. I think he meant well.

Mary loves the garden and gardening! What sort of cow helps with the gardening? A lawnmoo-er

Salad anyone? Mary laid this on me, “A man goes to the doctor with a piece of lettuce sticking out of his ear. The doctor looks at it and says, ‘that’s just the tip of the iceberg.'”

What’s orange and sounds like a parrot? A carrot!

We started to depart for Mary’s at about 2:00 PM when we saw Ed’s truck, so we called Vicky, and sure enough, Ed came to visit.  We met outside, where it is safe, and talked for a while.  Ed was doing just fine!

From there, we went to Trader Joe’s as we needed some “Two Buck Chuck” and goat cheese for tonight’s dinner. Now Mary does her doctoring paperwork, and I fix dinner.

When we got home, Mary noticed her little elephant ear cactus was blooming!

It’s blooming; it’s blooming.

I headed inside to clean up the cauliflower and put away the groceries.  While Mary worked in the office, I worked in the kitchen.

A lovely shade of purple.

I needed a little help as the final step involved boiling milk and butter and adding three kinds of cheese. Fortunately, MAry had just completed her assignment, and she came to my rescue.

Helping me out!

Into the over at 375 for thirty minutes, and dinner will be ready!

Just out of the oven!

We also decided to have some of the left-over sausage and peppers and a salad. MAry plated everything up while I prepared the salad with everything we could find in the frig.

Dinner is served!

The salad came out just fine! While making the salad,  I thought I heard a small red vegetable that was a bit like an onion whispering. It must have been a hoarse radish.

…and a salad ta boot!

We watched TV while eating and then watched a movie before crashing.  We decided it was time to say goodnight at 10:30 PM because the early night last night was too early.  Hitting the sack at 8:00 PM means the first wee-wee call of the night is midnight; that throws everything off.
