Not to brag, but I just went into another room and actually remembered why I went in there!
Memories: For some reason, only known to God, I woke up this morning thinking about growing up in 1950’s Los Angeles when we still had vacant lots, wow! I use to play in a creek almost exactly like this one. It was then called La Ballona Creek and was a flood control element of the greater LA Basin. We would find treasures here after rain storms…everything from bicycles to furniture. That was before we have to be careful of needles and other bad things. Our own world of high adventure and exploration! Kids just get silly video games today, too bad!
Today the creek is all cemented in and drains downtown LA into the ocean during severe rain storms and believe me, I would NOT walk along its route without a HAZMAT suit!
Return to reality…darn! The patio is down so what am I to do…oh, yeah, doctors appointments. Getting old means we see a lot of doctors.
This time it was for Sue and all is well, pun intended! Dr. Deborah Pauer is back after being away for nearly five months on medical leave. She was the doctor that told us Sue had cancer 22 years ago…she was just a little slip of a thing freshly out of medical school. She turned into a beautiful woman and a friend.
After the appointment, we celebrated and went to George’s Greek Restaurant on 2nd Street! We got our favorite table and of course started of with a plate of cheese and an alcohol fire…Saganaki!
Lightly floured and fried Greek kasseri cheese, flamed at the table with brandy. Finished with kalamata olives and fresh squeezed lemon juice.
Did You Know? The cheese used in cheese saganaki is usually graviera, kefalograviera, halloumi, kasseri, kefalotyri, or sheep’s milk feta cheese. Regional variations include the use of formaela cheese in Arachova, halloumi in Cyprus, and vlahotiri in Metsovo. The cheese is melted in a small frying pan until it is bubbling and generally served with lemon juice and pepper. It is eaten with bread.
I did the grilled stuffed steak! 8oz Flat Iron Steak Marinated in Fresh Lemon Juice,Extra-Virgin Olive Oil and Spices, Butterflied and Stuffed with Spinach and Feta Cheese.
Sue did the Vegetarian Falafel made daily from Garbanzo Beans and Spices. Served on top of Humus with Tomato, Cucumber, and Onion Salad. A lentil soup topped it off! Wonderful!
After lunch we headed home past the CVS Pharmacy to pick up a prescription! Home and simple chores around the house await. I watered several places in the yard while Sue read and we both crashed about 3:00 PM for a snooze before dancing tonight at Garden Grove Elks.
Just before departing we checked our email and, never guess, our oldest daughter, Robin, also got reserved tickets to see Star Wars Land with us on June 13th. Joe and Robin are such great kids, thinking of us like that. We are very very lucky!
Also in the email were pictures of our oldest great! Miss Lilly and Mommy went to Disneyland! We love these pictures and enjoy families enjoying Disneyland…since it is one of our haunts!
We danced until about 9:00 PM and the ol’ eyes began to close. We used the time well as we confirmed our Mother’ Day plans with the Zaitz and Branders. We hope Cyndy will be joining us this year!
Our in-town daughters are joining us plus Irene for a meal in the ol’ tractor shed! Yeah, it’s really called Il Garage and is located in Stanton. It reminds we of the Secret Garden! Great place to eat and share with friends!
Returning home, I did the house in changing colors…it was red as we walked up, blue as we unlocked the door, yellow as we walked in, and orange as we put away our left-overs and the wine! Then Sue made me change everything to subdued white…actually a good idea!
