One More Day And It’s Curtains For The Turkey!

I bought one of those tapes to teach you Spanish in your sleep. During the night, the tape skipped. Now I can only stutter in Spanish.

Ring! Ring!  It was Mitch and he was on his way to the airport as he is going to Iowa to  visit family and also mark the 30th anniversary of his mother’s passing.

He asked if I would order some flowers for the Thanksgiving Table in Iowa and of course I said “Yes”.  He gave me the address in New Market Iowa (population 415 people). Having not been born yesterday, I new there was no florists in this berg.  So, I got on the web and discovered no FTD would deliver tot he place either!  Now what to do!

I called the City Hall and explained my delima. Their suggestion was to call Clorinda, the major nearby city.  They suggested the Clarinda Flower Shop! Major city they say.  M-m-m-m-m-m-m?  I looked it up and their population was 5,514 people.  It’s an improvement for sure.

City square, Clarinda Iowa!

I called the flower store and got hold of a young lady and explained what I was attempting to do.  Well…this proved interesting as I needed a name to go with the address.  I could not remember Mitch’s niece’s name but finally it came to me…Pam Manley.   Duh!  Wouldn’t you know the flower shop person, Clara, knew Pam quite well!  It’s a small town you know.  So, the deal was done and the flowers are on their way.

See the picture above… looks like a typical small town.  But something caught my eye so I blew it up!  Right int he center of the picture was….The Clarinda Flower Shop!

Right in the center of town!

Definitely a small town! Everyone knew everyone! Our flower shop person was going to drive the flowers herself to New Market… 12 miles///12 minutes…not like Los Angeles where 12 minutes can be a good hour!

Six miles apart and Clarinda is ten times the size of New Market

We are getting ready for the big day!  We started out with a trip to Sue’s barber.  While she was inside, I went to the lumber yard which was next door.  I shopped for 40 minutes and did no find a thing I needed…proof that the shop is ready for anything!

We decided to go out for lunch and Panda Inn seemed to hit the spot. Their food is delicious albeit fattening!  I have no idea how I put on three pounds after lunch but I did!

We took at least three meals home with us!

We expected out cleaning people about 3:00 PM so I worked around the yard making sure the big rain storm would be OK and we would have no issues!

When they came, I ran to the market but forgot it was the day before Thanksgiving!  It was a mad house so I got the minimal items on the list and headed home!

Before going to bed, I looked at Thanksgiving ten years ago. It was 2008 and we had Mitch, Penny, Tammy, Dave and all the kids over to celebrate.

We watched TV and crashed about 11:00 PM.
