This Is Another Fine Mess You Got Me Into!

Fact: It’s Impossible to Hum While You Hold Your Nose. – Try it!

We woke up early to go planting, and when we looked outside, the wind was blowing so hard the anemometer was spinning, and smoke was coming out. Scout didn’t even want to go outside.

I asked Mary, “Did you hear about the cow that was lifted into the air by a tornado? It was an udder disaster!”

I need to clean my office desk more often!

We got our morning coffee and headed to the office, me on the computer and Mary at the puzzle. We listened/watched the news about the war in the background.

Around 11:00 PM,  Mary made breakfast, and by then, the wind had died down.   We could tell as the trees were again standing upright. So, that means time to plant.

Mary is always quick to assist me!

We decided to cook up a batch of Beef Bourguignon. We vary how we do it; sometimes in the slow cooker and sometimes in the Dutch oven.

Yum Yum!

Beef Bourguignon or bœuf bourguignon, also called beef Burgundy, and bœuf à la Bourguignonne, is a French beef stew braised in red wine, often red Burgundy, and beef stock, typically flavored with carrots, onions, garlic, and a bouquet garni, and garnished with pearl onions, mushrooms, and bacon.

You must start with good meat, and we have two local markets that do a pretty good job! Today it was Ralph’s turn, and it was not too bad at $8.00/pound.

Time to cook!

Mary did the veggies as I browned the meat and made the pan nice and flavorful! We added potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and onions.

Browning is an important step!

The next step was deglazing. Deglazing is a cooking technique that involves adding liquid (such as stock or wine) to a pan to loosen the food particles attached to the bottom from cooking or searing.

We poured in one and a half bottles of lovely red wines. It made my eyes water; yeah! One sniff of the steam and I was looped!

Time to deglaze.

Once the meal was in the crock-pot, we headed outside. We got so busy planting, we didn’t even take pictures!

In the ground; now get busy!

We ran out of room, so we added some barrels for a temporary location.

In the ground; now get busy!

We put four barrels out in the front yard because we had so many plants. We may move these into the ground a little later on.

We can pick a tomato as we walk out the door.

We even planted out in the back forty!

Tomatoes everywhere!

By the end of the day, we were pooped. Dinner time came around, and the crock-pot was ready. We had a delicious dinner and then crashed, watching a little TV and doing some reading.   Sometimes I am not an early bird or a night owl. I am some form of a permanently exhausted pigeon.
