Day 8 - Speaking Danish In Solvang
We departed around 9:15 AM after resting this morning. Today we will mostly drive as we have seen the sights before.
We put our worldly belongings on a tram and moved them downstairs where with a lot of Vaseline and a sledge-hammer I got them into the van one more time.
There was room for two beans and a playing card when I was done!
I saw two guys on the 4th floor betting whether or not I could get all the stuff into the van!
It was a nice hotel and the staff was amazing.
We made it over the GG Bridge just after rush hour. We meandered through downtown SF seeing all the homeless dopers living on the streets; just like LA. We chose NOT to stop as it did not look all that safe, even with Scout who would probably refuse to bite them the way they smelled.
Over the bridge we went.
It is pretty from a distance; up front, not so much!
The bridge was built in one-tenth of the time it took people today to complete the 405 (oops, it is still not done)
Did You Know? Construction began on January 5, 1933. The project cost more than $35 million ($530 million in 2020 dollars), and was completed ahead of schedule and $1.3 million under budget (equivalent to $25.7 million today). The Golden Gate Bridge construction project was carried out by the McClintic-Marshall Construction Co., a subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel Corporation founded by Howard H. McClintic and Charles D. Marshall, both of Lehigh University.
We stayed on the 101 all the way to Solvang except for the time I treated Mary to a fine lunch at the Naval facility; I thing it was called Subway. We both had sandwiches and they were great.
We have arrived in SOLVANG!
We found a wonderful Italian restaurant.
After dinner we walked around and decided what our plan of attack was for tomorrow morning. The trip home is three hours so we will do some shopping before departing for LA; we really want to avoid the LA traffic.
Scout met several more friends on the walk!
Mary likes the Vikings
We missed the hot tub, we were too tired.
Mary had a change of mind and went into the hot tub!
After the police showed up (for decent exposure) we got out of jail around 10:00 PM.
We crashed early and watched Gilmore Girls for about an hour before I took Mr. Scout out for his pre-sleepy pee-pee! All is well and we will be home tomorrow.
