Saturday - April 21, 2024 Ft/ Lauderdale To Savannah Georgia (Daily Diary Synopsis)
It was quite a trip! We called ahead and got reservations at a hotel. The drive was good but seven hours sitting was tough after being so active for two weeks on the ship!
Interstate 95 is the main north–south Interstate Highway on the East Coast of the United States, running from U.S. Route 1 in Miami, Florida, north to the Houlton–Woodstock Border Crossing between Maine and the Canadian province of New Brunswick.
Seven hour shot right up the coast!
Ft. Lauderdale, the door to the Caribbean!
The port's enviable location in the heart of South Florida and the neighboring Caribbean makes it one of the three busiest cruise homeports in the world. Some 3.7 million cruise guests are expected in 2024.
Did You Know? - Fort Lauderdale is a city on Florida's southeastern coast, known for its beaches and boating canals. The Strip is a promenade running along oceanside highway A1A. It's lined with upscale outdoor restaurants, bars, boutiques and luxury hotels.
It was HOT and we stopped at at "Rest Stop" and found this great machine!
The ice cream was freezing cold; nice as it did not melt instantly.
Mary giggled as it went trough it motions.
The car did NOT have GPS and it was another day until we figured out it had ApplePlay and we could use our iPhones for directions.
As expected, we crossed many bridges
along the route. No water shortage here!
Did You Know? - Savannah, a coastal Georgia city, is separated from South Carolina by the Savannah River. It's known for manicured parks, horse-drawn carriages and antebellum architecture. Its historic district is filled with cobblestoned squares and parks such as Forsyth Park shaded by oak trees covered with Spanish moss. At the center of this picturesque district is the landmark, Gothic-Revival Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.
