Overview Of Our Trip To The East Coast Summary Page
We opted to return to Baa Haba Maine so Mary could attend a symposium and complete her mandatory CME (Continuing Medical Education) hours for this year. This is great because Colleen is a mere four hours away by car so we will visit her also! Three days in Ba Haba (Thursday-Sunday) and six days with Colleen (Sunday-Friday).
Each of the headers below will take you to an individual page OR go to the bottom and there will be a link to the next page.
Fall In New England
Day 1 Thursday 9/26/2024 - Off We Go Departing For LAX at 3:00 AM
Oh my! It is difficult loading the limo with all of Mary' suitcases when my eyes are still shut from NOT being awake yet! We fly from LAX to Pittsburgh and then on into Bangor Maine where we rented a car and drove to Bar Harbor.
It was a short drive to Bar Harbor.
Day 2 Friday 9/27/2024 - Mary Heads Off To School!
We walked about town for a bit, had a quick breakfast before the school bell rang and Mary had to run down the little dirt path to the old school house.
Breakfast on the pier!
She was all dressed up in her "Sunday Go To Meetin'" clothes hoping to impress the lecturers and she brought a shiny big red apple for the principal!
The little school girl was now going to class!
After school, the children were invited to go on a boat ride in the nearby water generally referred to as the Atlantic Ocean.
We were ready to sail!
Day 3 Saturday 9/28/2024 - Mary Heads Off To School And Paul Rides The Bus!!
Since Mary had to be in school most of the day, it was time for Paul to play so he signed up for a tour Acadia National Forest unaware that the fog so prevalent in this area would not clear up all day!
I missed the poison ivy!
After three hours of sitting in a bus meandering around Acadia in the dense fog, I was ready for some action. I picked up Mary after school, roughly 3:00 pm, and we walked into town and found a restaurant call "The Loft". We ate interesting foods and drank wine and found our way home to a movie on the TV. We were both tired!
I loved them Sea Boogers!
Day 4 Sunday 9/29/2024 - Schools out At 1:00 PM and We Head To Dover!
As she exited the building, her hero (me) scooped her up and off we went up and down the highway for the next four hours. Most everything fits into Mary's five steamer trunks. I put my one pair of jeans into the Ralph's Market paper sack (I folded it carefully) and went to have breakfast. Mary allowed me $1.50 for breakfast, so I had a toothpick and a glass of water—known in these parts as a "pine float"!
Four hours later we arrive in Dover and meet up with Colleen.
It was still Sunday when we arrived at 5:00 pm and the family was meeting at "The Holy Grail" Irish Restaurant. The clan was all together except for Chuck and his daddy. Chunk (Ashton) had a slight tummy problem! That is allowable since he is only a year and a half old!
Yeah Yeah the gangs all here!!!
Some things never change!! Calhan and Jon doing their thing!
Day 5 Monday 9/30/2024 - We Do Some Serious Visiting With Family
We were up by eight and decided to have breakfast at the B&B before going to Colleen's home. At breakfast we met up with Gale, who always dresses up as a witch during Halloween.
Binx was up and around as he is the guard kitty!
Binx is moving slower these days; perhaps it is because he is stuffed?
We drove to Colleen's and visit with her and Mark.
Colleen and Mark have a beautiful home in Dover.
Most of the family gathered at Colleen's and we had another time to visit and see the little great grandkids. Sarah fixed her now famous fried oysters and the head chef, Mark, did tri-tips! We had a feast!!
Below you see four generations. Does that make us feel old or what?
Mark, Ashton, Calhan, GG Paul, and Grandson Jon!
Mary joins right in and loves her adopted family.
Watching all the activity from a safe distance1
Day 6 Tuesday 10/1/2024 - We Do Some Serious Visiting With Family
We were up early and had breakfast at the Silver Fountain Inn. The dining room was partially decorated, but we expect additional decorations by this evening. The breakfast was terrific! It kept us going until lunchtime.
We took a drive to Connecticut and visited Alyce and Ralph Chartier, Pete's parents. They were supposed to have got notified but alas, brother Ed failed. we popped in anyway and had a nice long visit.
Alyce was very surprised but thankful we stopped by!
It's been 20 years since they got together!
On our way home we stopped at a Mexican Restaurant which I had little hope of it being good. In fact, it was excellent!
We took up a collection to buy Colleen New jeans (We will pay for that remark!)
Day 7 Wednesday 10/2/2024 - More Visiting
We thought we should let Colleen rest and not have to entertain us this morning, so we stayed around the Inn. We had coffee early, followed by breakfast. We just relaxed until around 1:30 pm., when we invited Colleen for lunch at the Inn. The weather cooperated beautifully.
Departing the Inn
We stopped at the local museum where we spend a couple of hour wandering around with the volunteer docent.
The Civil War room was fascinating!
Colleen joined us at the Inn for afternoon tea. It was delightful to dine of excellent tea and fresh scones.
Binx is checking on us1
We visited Jacquie's home which was kind of in the woods. It was beautiful and she was rightly proud of what she and her husband have achieved.
Hello Ladies!
We returned to Colleen's place where Jon and Sarah brought their three kids. Mary enjoyed playing with them and visa versa!
"Now kiddies, we do NOT bite the hand that feeds you!"
Day 8 Thursday 10/3/2024 - Our Last Full Day; Museums & Lighthouses!
Yesterday we did NOT finish the museum so we went back for a while before going to Colleens for a trip to the local lighthouse. We spend two more hours going through the carriage house and the three floors of the second building on the grounds.
I plan to get Mary one of these fine washing machines when we get home!
We went to Colleen's and got a ride to a local Maine lighthouse where we walked around on the wind and went shopping!
It was a beautiful day!
Love those hairdo's ladies!
We returned to New Hampshire and met up with family at the Tuckaway Inn where we met up with them last year! It was fantastic with us getting to meet Jacquie's father-in-law (Mama had to work)! Great fun!
We downed some drinks, devoured some delicious meats, and carried on!
Day 9 Friday 10/4/2024 - Coming Home!
The iPhone alarm went wild at 6:03 am this morning. When I jumped out of bed, I noticed the shower was running, and sure enough, Miss Bright Eyes And Bushy Tailed was already getting ready to go!
We walked around the Inn for one last visit this year and we saw an UGLY poltergeist!
The room got extremely cold and the shutters opened and closed!
We departed post-haste!
The drive to the airport was uneventful but both of us had a feeling we were being followed!
We could not take him home, the plane was full!
The flight home was easy as we both slept for a couple of hours. We were totally wiped out due to having so much fun and being on the go 24x7.
